Dear Elvis,
Since you are indeed free to choose to NOT wear a helmet,
I must assume you are heavily insured for at least a million $$$ in case of a crash,
so that us tax payers DO NOT have to pay for your brain damaged hospital care!

I will be dead, you guys that ride like idiots with helmets are the ones that costs the taxpayers. I have had two accidents, neither were my fault, one with a helmet, one without. My neck is still not recovered from the one with and that was 17 years ago.

You guys are a riot, you should move to Europe where you can be treated like cattle as much as you want.

I see you are from Washington, is that where the citizens aren't allowed to pump their own gas? LOL

Both WA & OR do have helmet laws and for GOOD reason!
Alas, you be so much smarter than all others, so the safety reasons for a helmet especially for lower speed collisions is wasted on one bovaristic as yourself!

Your first sentence states that riders who wear helmets and ride like idiots are the problem. From that I would assume that means that you don't ride like an idiot.

Your second sentence states that you have had two accidents, neither of which were your fault. That statement seems to support most statistics that I have seen that the majority of two or more vehicle accidents involving motorcycles are not the motorcyclist's fault. It also seems to contradict your first statement.

Riders riding like idiots generally tend to be involved in single vehicle accidents, more often than not finding themselves traveling too fast to make a sudden maneuver, like avoiding an object or making a turn. This type of rider, much like those who choose not to wear helmets, usually suffer consequences that could have been avoided had they made smarter choices. As your experience proves, riding in a safe and sane manner does not preclude you from being involved in an accident.

If you believe a helmet can save your life, and you choose not to wear one, that's your right. If you don't believe a helmet can save your life, well that's a whole different discussion.

Back on topic, I've fitted 16" apes to my old Streetbob and 18" apes to my old Roadking. The only way you will know if you like em is to fit em. Its all relative to the height of the rider, and riser to seat height dimensions. Keep your hands at shoulder height or lower.
Having ridden Harleys with apes and now ridden a R3, I wouldnt fit em to a Rocket. Too much acceleration, stopping power and overall weight, apes suit the relaxed Harley ride style, good for cruising up to 70mph, not much acceleration or stopping power (relatively speaking). If you do fit em, make sure you have hard nylon riser bushes to stop flexing at the riser, drill, tap the riser cover, centre punch the bars and wind in some grub screws with loctite. If your bars slip in the clamps under hard stopping, with the R3's weight you might die horribly.
