2007 Rocket Help T/S!

Just a quick update. Everything behind the front engine looks immaculate I have mixed feelings about that. Likely is a trans issue, will find out when we crack the case open. Prior to dropping the motor is like to replace the weren't spring even though it is in good order. Call it preventative maintenance. Does anyone have a recommendation for better than oem replacement? Part number would be a huge plus

Also, should there be this much slack? I feel like this hole (picture 3) should have a tensioner. Anyone know?

You can't split the motor while it's in the bike. Hopefully the detent spring was your problem. Although you mentioned metal in the lower end, I still suggest you drop the sump pan for a quick look see.
If all else fails at least you will get the sump screens cleaned out which is important.
You have the old detent wheel so your bike has not had the update kit.

Use the OEM detent spring, and install it per my instructions and it should not fail again.

I have the front engine cover taken off, the old detent spring is still in pristine condition @warp9.9. Would you recommend still replacing?

In my opinion u r depending on hear say opinion that may be wrong. for example some one might say it has metal just to sale a job or new cycle. and i am assuming that u never even tried to shift it. so if i am right about this u have no idea what is the problem actually is.
now it might be clutch adjust, clutch apply parts, spring, old oil or bent forks or trans gears.
if i had been working i would have tried to duplicate the prob or at a minimum drop the pan to verify the prob. it seems that u r taking the long way around but some times that works also.

The seller reported metal shavings and that those and all fluids were taken out, so duplicating the problem or shifting is not really an option with no oil or coolant.. filling it to duplicate the problem could make it worse if something is broken. I'm being thorough and checking all possible options. Detent spring is now ruled out. Now checking the pan. Then likely dropping the motor.

Can’t hurt to raise the rear wheel and run thru the gears 1 at a time while spinning the tire by hand.

Kicking myself for not doing this first. Either way the hands on has been good to learn the bike. Will reconnect and give that a go

this sounds like a good idea
if u pulled one plug out of each u might be able to turn the gears and motor. i have never tried this.
