transmission noise!!

Hey Pat while I am at it what ddi you do with the spring and little pin that contacts the gear position sensor? You do not want to miss place it or allow it to shoot out on th eground!!

I agree with Fred on the radiator. I removed the rad and the front fender for clearance. Also check where the top rear of the motor slides down past the air box. You may have to coax it a little with a thin pry bar. You're doing good.

What a thread!! I really think this one needs to be a sticky for all of us that own 08 and prior models...sooner or later, we'll all (at least most) be doing this exact thing (mine comes in November)!
My confidence in doing this myself has certainly been boueyed by this thread and you guys knowledge and photos :)

what pin what spring !!
I have taped the pin but can you give me the spring dimension? I have one but not sure it is the right one?

Looks like your coming right along Patrick ! I removed my radiator. You should pull the shrouds, my bet is the hoses are holding things up. I think the radiator will have to come out. The oil filter has to come off if it's not already. It will run into the front tire. That will give you an idea of just how far down it has to swing. I also unbolted my throttle bodies and lifted them up and zip tied them to the frame. You shouldn't have to unhook any wires, cables or hoses. Also the ground cable from the battery bolts on the back of the engine near the starter. That has to come off also.
the ground wire from bat box to engine is no longer connected to battery so I may leave it alone although I could replace it with a bigger gauge since I installed the bigger starter!! still pondering if it make thayt much difference reporting tonight about progress

The spring is inside the aluminum rod that rotates when you shift. the little pin fits in it and the spring is what keep the tension on the pin while it rotates to the different contact points on the gear position sensor yours might still be in the rod which you can see part of it since you have the out put drive loose. Also I have given some more thought to the throttle bodies. You can get away with leaving them but you will need to unhook the cables. its not hard when you look at the throttle bodies just loosen the top nut on each cable tube this way you do not lose you cable length adjustment. I do that to min all the time. then you can rotate the throttle plate and take the cables out. remember to mark which one goes where.

here I am near the end of my patience and I found once cable I had not disconnected on the bottom no idea what it is for anyway what is holding me back now is simply the throttle body fred said two 10mm bolts hold the whole thing but I cannot see them I still wonder how he managed doing this ON THE FLOOR!!!!! I curse non stop and yet work at eye level
so what is the simplest way cables or two bolts? I am going to look at your way since i cannot see them 10 mm bolts
I found the pin and spring for the sensor !! luck played out!!
I blabber but if triumph had made a frame where the lower part of the frame supporting the engine could have been unbolted say the last 10 inches we could do much easier plan around the engine case but they figured let the dealers make money on labour!! this job is a 25 to 30 hrs labour in this part . back in an hour

ok still cannot see the bolts fred talked about and with your system we are talking cable rotating the wheel correct if so the lower nut on each cable is the one to loosen since the upper ones do not allow for moving the tube away from the wheel where the cable fit in the groove. but how do you get to that nut since the tab holding the threaded cable holder is bent at 90 degres ? and I cannot get a tool to turn the nut back to square one where are the two 10mm bolts holding this entire business fred said he tied the whole package up onto something

OK Pat here is the pictures of each end of the throttle body the bot have the holes that the two 10 mm bolts go into to tighten it up Like Fred was saying. after you pull them to then its the three hose clamps on the bottom.

I will go take some pictures of the cables and what two nuts to loosen up. I be right back
