Don't worry Steve. The first few times I saw his avatar I thought his name was Albert. It's Patrick I believe.
thanks now I am less offended !! alberta being the province in which I live duke being a very sweet very nice little airplane I flew way back when I had hair on my scalp

Looks like the cage to a roller bearing most likely the front on the output drive. Did you find that in the rear screen area? Whats the rest of the sump pan look like? Small fragments in the screens? At least you did not ride it until it locked up!!!!

the parts found looks now that you mention it like the cage around each ball in a ball bearing unit.
all the bits were found in the rear screen everything else is clean I filtered the oil and nothing was found in the pan nor in the oil I have not removed the oil filter but my guess is there would not be anything there . I kind of limped back home after about 15 miles of riding this morning taking it very easy so nothing grenaded , my regular shop tell me they cannot look at the bike till the snow fall!! so plan number two go to an independant and cross my fingers
I am not confident enough to start pulling part of that engine anyway just as I was planning a trip to jasper

Where exactly in Alberta be you, PATRICK?
Get down here to Tacoma and I'll let you ride my V2K to Jasper.
Perhaps even go with if my calendar is open.

My guess would be the front bearing as the rear has a retainer plate and if it went there would be a lot of small fragments the retainer would hold the large one up there a while until the until ground to bits. Both will have to be replaced with the newer updates ones.
