transmission noise!!

You would be crazy not to change out any worn parts while you have things apart....You don't want to have to go back in later. It is always a nice bonus if you can replace the worn stock part with something that is an upgrade.

and a lot cheaper approximately $100 vs triumph starter $700+

Boy no one likes to wreck and I would not wish it on anyone but I would definitely like to not remember mine :) Sounds to me like you out put drive locked up. The only mine locked up was when exploded the internal clutch hub bending the input shaft to the transmission If your not going to work on the 05 until winter I can probably have the 05 engine in my other frame out and some of them parts might be what you need and of course you can have them. The only other way I can see a transmission locking up is if you bent a shift fork and it was in two gears at once. Not likely if you were just riding down the road when it happened. Easy way to tell is pull the sump pan and look in the back left off it for roller bearing material. if its there its the output drive for sure. the one in my 05 is good but has the old style bearings in it. You get new ones in the update kit though plus the second gear updates also. for a couple hundred bucks its worth it.

Hmmmm....Shift fork? When describeing the lock up I said that it felt like it was trying to go into 2 gears at once. At the time I didn't know if it was possible. That would also explain why I had trouble shifting into fifth just before. It would just grind as if the synconizer was gone. I was able to downshift and then back up to fifth at lower speed and it engaged.

Yes pictures are one of the most important tools especially now days when its so easy to capture views of before and after.

I am at work now and they have so much security crap on our system that I cannot save and load a marked up picture so I will send it home and upload it tonight. Anyway if your forks are bents then of the three I would suspect on the top shaft (the out put shaft) it would be the first fork from the left right between the second and third gear on the shaft. And then the only fork on the bottom shaft (Input shaft) Its right between the third and fourth gear on the shaft from the left.

Below is a picture with a shft missing so you can see the forks better it is 180 degrees out from the above picture

Hope this helps give you a idea of the internals.

I get a woody and a big scare at the same time looking at this stuff.
But I sincerely hope I do not have to get there I mean doing the output shaft is already my daring limit
I also wish to say a Big thanks to Fred and Jake Fred called to help with specific advices and jake sent me the tools he made to make removal of some parts easier big thanks to both , I love the helping spirit of this bunch of rocket riders picture of tools made by jake

best $209 investment possible !
today I used the tools sent to me and removed the swing arm that was a chore had to use a lever three feet long! IMG_1181.JPG IMG_1182.JPG IMG_1184.JPG IMG_1185.JPG and I had the most difficult time removing the little bolt holding the rear hydraulic line on the swing arm the one wwway up where you cannot reach
must be some british engineering brilliance , I will replace that with a plastic tie wrap.

did some pictures showind what the thing looks witho swing arm the little side connection are - one- headlight switch and below trickle charger plugin and since the starter is now quite easy to reach I went and bought the upgraded toyota starter model 17610 looks a wee bit longer than factory but apparently will fit just right according to some earlier posts ..no more flat spots when trying to start beside the old one is 8 years old.
