transmission noise!!

I have thrashed part of my transmission before which is why I bought the 2011 plus its a chance to measure and compare parts to see if Triumph has made any changes. Whats wrong with the 2009 Transmission? and the rest of the bike for that matter? Was it a Classic?

The 09 is fine. The 05 Classic I wrecked when something in the trans locked up the rear tire. I had a concussion and no reccolection of the accident and didn't find out til 4 weeks later what had caused it. I posted a thread about it back in June.

when removing a part that looks like it can go either way you can use a die grinder to put a mark to show the direction that it goes when re-installing it.
also when we are working on a trans that we have never seen we break out the camera and start taking pictures. seems like that works very good especially when you have to wait for 3 weeks to get a part.
i have not been into mine but am interested in seeing some pictures.

Boy no one likes to wreck and I would not wish it on anyone but I would definitely like to not remember mine :) Sounds to me like you out put drive locked up. The only mine locked up was when exploded the internal clutch hub bending the input shaft to the transmission If your not going to work on the 05 until winter I can probably have the 05 engine in my other frame out and some of them parts might be what you need and of course you can have them. The only other way I can see a transmission locking up is if you bent a shift fork and it was in two gears at once. Not likely if you were just riding down the road when it happened. Easy way to tell is pull the sump pan and look in the back left off it for roller bearing material. if its there its the output drive for sure. the one in my 05 is good but has the old style bearings in it. You get new ones in the update kit though plus the second gear updates also. for a couple hundred bucks its worth it.

yep but all meds aside and take away my sticky keyboard my grandson made for me I still can't type worth a sheet :D

ok boys and girls (i am gender neutral) I told the shop where my ride sat for 10 days without seeing a wrench that I was going to fix myself , and brought it home, on the lift it went and I started removing parts . I am waiting for a special tool from jake shaw in P.EI.to remove the swing arm but in the mean time I split the bevel box to look inside and I think had I not done so next year the drive shaft would have seized up that is how dry it was S..O.B look the picture is not showing but it was dry alright so I used a special H-D (thats Heavy Duty ) belray grease designed specially for this sort of application
PS Scientist I may have missed your call ?? we have 2 hrs difference I believe and IMG_1167.JPG IMG_1167.JPG IMG_1174.JPG IMG_1175.JPG IMG_1176.JPG IMG_1177.JPG few pics showing progress

The splines look ok so if the shaft is the same way you will be able to clean her up and use Moly 60 so she last. When you lube her up fill the bottom of the cup up about 1/2 inch or so before you install it.

I agree with you there and will give any pointers I can. I am sure we can get Fred involved as he just did his. Although yours will be faster because its a black engine :)
Also you want to loosen up the special castle nuts with a brass drift. it just takes a few whacks and you will be able to take it off without the special sockets. Even using the sockets you want to shock the castle nuts anyway. mine were so tight I broke IAN sockets and had to replace it.

Off to a good start. I bet you feel better for taking charge and doing something about getting your bike back on the road again.
you bet I do am I even considering changing starter while it is in plain view and get a bigger 1.4 KW ...seen previous posts ...also change for bigger gauge cables,
I have a flat spot on my current (pun intended) starter bugs me , I need to rock the bike forward to move away from that flat spot so the replacement is justified.
