Hello gents.
I got my rocket not long ago and couldn't really ride it, still, I did about 5kms on her on apart from a little hesitation at 2k rpm, it ran fine.

Now I decided afterwards to do the basic maintenance on her. She had a plug that didn't fire correctly based on the dealer's report (and it felt so) so I changed the oil, the filter, the differential oil, all the 6 plugs, the breather and the air filters (I installed 3 K&Ns). I also chipped it with the jardines and k&n tune (I have TORS). Now I fired her up for the first time since I had done the maintenance this morning. Fired up with a bit of hesitation, as usual, and I had to boost her. Nonetheless, she ran OK, I got a check engine code for the MAP (checked via TuneECU) which was a first, but after a couple of seconds she settled and I let her do the TB balancing (I had reset the TBs in tune ECU as well), so I let her run, do the 12 minute tune (turned out to be about 17 minutes but anyways), kill the engine afterwards, go do a few things, come back about 2 hours later, try to fire her up, she cranks, nothing happens, try a few times, nothing happens, finally, boom, she fires up. Runs like ****e, have to hold the throttle or she just stalls, then she starts misfiring and backfiring like crazy, and the hotter she got, the worst it became. So at one point though I could let her idle a bit, leave her like that, after maybe 30 seconds, she stalls, all the while still backfiring like crazy. Did that a couple of times, finally got her to heat up enough so that the fans would start, I thought I'd let her go for another 12 minute tune, but she'd keep backfiring and pinging and it stalled.

So now, the question is, wtf could've happened ? The only thing I can think of is either bad fuel ( but I added new one and it didn't change a thing) or the plugs are ****ed (following the advices I got here, I put the one range colder). Now it's -3 celcius outside, could it be it's just too cold to get her going fine ?

Anyway, any bit of advice would be super appreciated...

Back when I done all that you just discribed, mine done the same thing. Ran like shiit and backfired and kept dying. I came back to the garage and lifted the tank and found that one of the vacum lines going into a tee had come off while I was working under there. I found the vacum line and re connected it and it has ran greet ever since. Hope this helps.

That is also what happened to my Rocket back in '08 I had accidently loosened (or something) a vacuum hose under the gas tank and it ran terrible (two out of three cylinders???). Took it into my dealer and they found it pretty much right away, fixed it and it ran great.

You guys rock my life. It was in fact the vacuum line going into the sensor which came off, probably when I lowered the tank. Now because I let her run for a while with that disconnected, I think I fouled the plugs up a bit, because at first it sounded as though she ran on two cylinders. After a little while though, she sounded quite fine.

Many thanks lads, I'm really so happy it's all back to normal !

I know how you feel. You spent all this time and effort and its not right. Then when it all comes together is a big relief to know it wasn't all for knott. Ride safe.

The knowledge and experience of the guys on this site is amazing.
i've saved a ton of money by simple fixes somebody else already went through.
i hope I've saved somebody else some frustration by returning the favor.

You took the words right out of my mouth there (need I remind you this isn't very hygienic by the way :p)

All kidding aside, this place is definitely a gold mine, and not just because of the information you can find here, but because of the PEOPLE you find here as well.
I must say I was quite discouraged, after having spent what, 3 days working on this, that it didn't work, and I really though it was the plugs, which were surely the toughest part, so I really didn't want to redo them. And after just having gotten rubbish service at the dealer and them attempting to rob me, the last thing I wanted to do was go back there if nothing worked in the end. Saved me monies (which I haven't at the moment...), but also, it saved my pride haha.
AND, the weather clearing up and I should be able to ride Wednesday for the first (real) time, so I'm definitely on cloud 9 haha.

Thanks to all again! Owe you all a pint haha!
