Time to change tires? Need advice

I put a new Metz 240x50x16 on my rocket in 2007....382 miles on that new tire on my way to work the rear of my bike started to feel funny. Just a few seconds I knew what was going on...I knew I had a rear tire going flat...got slowed down and pulled off the road...

Dead center of my new tire was a 2 inch sheet rock screw....I plugged the tire, aired it up and went to work....I ordered a car tire to fit my rocket that day..

When I got the call that the car tire was in..I took the rocket down to the parking lot at the lake and did 3 nice burn out that John Force would be proud of...

The way I like to ride.....I would never ride on a plugged tire except to get home very very carefully..

Thanks for the input. Zeke did patch the tire with the mushroom plug from the inside, it did hold and we rode around town on it but did get a bridge max to replace it and will put that one on before our Cali trip. And THANKS for the welcomes! We love our rocket and hope to ride with other Rocketers if we can find any around Louisiana. It's hard to find people that want to ride without stopping at every bar, we don't drink so we usually ride by ourselves.

Know what you mean .. hard to find others to ride with that don't want to turn ride into a pub crawl. I don't drink either .. tell people if they ask " can't drink and ride and i'm riding all the time" ;) .. like you i've found it's best to just do your own thing most of the time.

Is it good to stock a new tire for long time also? Thank you all![/quote

Triumph/Mez recommends not to exceed 80 MPH when tire tread is 2mm or less. Changed my rear Mez at 8900 mi. when end of middle tread was smooth with bottom off tread. 2011 R3R with 8300 mi. When punched in Oct 2013

Tekardi, I recommend the exedra max and if you can get it I recommend trying it before you try the Dark Side. It might be the tire for you. As for more traction off the start I would dissagree I can burn any tire I want off from the start no matter whether its a car tire or a motorcycle tire. I have enough horse power to eat either up if I choose. I still say the exedra is the best tire out there for a rocket that supports a 240 width tire. So far I have found it to be better then any of the 18 inch tires I have tried also. Ihave no traction issue taking off withthe motorcycle tire either especially at the race track where there is more rubber on the ground. Give it a chance and then try the darky if you want I am sure you will switch back if you decide to go. As for stopping I have no problems in fact I find if your rear tire is locking up it is the operators problem not the brakes, no matter what tire you ride.
Scott how do you take off at the track? Make it stick? That’s a real trick in it self with the rocket not so much baby rockets but full grown bodacious style rockets very impressive
