Stebel horn installed; in place of OEM horn

That Mickey mouse horn just had to go!

After failing to get the Risers installed on my Rocket, since I already had the "pull back" handlebars on my Classic (and the cables turned out to be too short with the new Rivco risers) I decided to tackle the second project for my new Rocket.

I had a Stebel horn mounted on my VTX; it is the deluxe one that has a nice cover of chrome in the front (and frikken pricey too $149.00). I wanted to mount this horn on front of the lower triple tree of the Rocket, but knew that I had to do a little "Yankee Engineering" to make it work.

I ended up removing both the chrome cover in front of the OEM horn, and the OEM horn itself. I bent the horn mounting bracket in such a way that it would hold the Stebel in the correct position; used some star washer to help the grip of the nuts/bolts since the Stebel is heavy; and wired in a relay and tucked everything (wires) under the tank.

Below are some pic's of the finished project. I feel a lot better now having a horn that will "sound off" with a lot more decibels (139db) than the OEM (102db)

It'll sure enough be loud out front. Mine is under the side cover and it'll still make your ears bleed. If I mounted mine like that it'd be full of bugs where I live. Nice job.

I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago, but mine is the black model.
You may have better luck than I did.
My stock bracket eventually broke off and the stebil scratched my fender,
or maybe it was the part of the bracket still attached scratched the fender,
either way, I had to make another bracket to remount it.
No big deal really, but it started a long slippery slope of more modifications.
Welcome to the customizing side of R3 ownership.
It's an expensive hobby, but loads of fun.

I think I've still got some extra brackets laying around.

Nice job, beats my "Alice the Goon" (Popeye) look of the auto horn I installed in place of the OEM horn, but it is a lot louder than it was. I'll keep it the way it is for now, may be a project for when I get home.

I've seen far far worse center point focuses. I know how much an improvement the Stebel is, over the stock meep meep.

But it would have looked far better with WillTill or BadAss or RocketIII emblazended on the cod piece, instead of the advertising proclivity of product manufacturers; and resellers.

or you could just cover it up like I did with a different motorcycle part.
(Victory ignition switch cover on mine)
It keeps the water and bugs out and still doesn't restrict the sound AT ALL.
 
Here is my "Alice the goon" horn set up on my Rocket. It works and it is loud. I used the OEM bracket, no relays needed just bolted it in and plugged in and now I can be heard.

Agree. I don't like displaying various manufacturer's names on their products, after I have bought them and am using them. I've gone as far to de-badge my Honda VTX and Suzuki Vstrom; gives them a more streamlined look.

I have contemplated de-badging the Triumph as well, but it is such a unique motorcycle, I am undecided at the moment.

The Wolo "Bad boy" chrome horn which is almost an exact copy of the Stebel has a plain, clean look without the manufacturer's logo on the front of it, although the name of the horn is imprinted on the top of the compressor itself. A little less noticeable from the front.

I actually took the time yesterday and looked through your album here on this board, to see what you meant by the description of your horn.

Nothing wrong with it. Functionality first; aesthetics second.
