Replacing rear indicators with LEDs

Well that all depends Phil - LEDs come in a multitude of specs:
first, the lumens output can vary incredibly
Second, you have to look at the spec for the angle of output - some are very narrow, while others can be wider.
So with a narrowly focused LED, regardless of its spec'd light output, can be much less visible when viewed from side, vs behind.
So when buying LED bulbs, you need to carefully review the specs beyond just what 'fits' for those important criteria.
 
Ok I also determined that only 1 relay is used. Whilst I have ordered resistors I think Ill acquire an electronic relay to replace the OEM one rather than install the resistors (in parallel). Just confirming that even if I only replace the rear indicators with new LEDs, I can still run the incandescents on the front using the replacement relay?

Aha! I see that you had already answered my other question, Messr. D'Ecosse. Thanks. I"m sure that I speak for all concerned that we're very fortunate to share in your knowledge, expertise and professionalism.

So if I want to use a plug and play LED solution I'll need to upgrade the indicator relay and ensure that the specs of an LED lamp equal or exceed those of the OEM bulbs.

Just one caveat regarding load resistors - that is the only (practical) solution for Touring Model - they have the Relay built-into the Instrument Cluster, so it cannot be replaced
(well you could wire in an external Relay/socket, but that is maybe more work than the resistors in that case)
 
Autobahn here I come. Thanks everyone for your help, amazing what a bit of research and some clarification can do for one's confidence. Will ley you know how I fair.
 
Finally, looking at the relay types to suit my application. I will require a 3 pin 12V LED Electronic flasher with Load sensitive globe outage? With front incandescents and rear LEDs running, a 21watt relay is sufficient considering 10w incandescent + the one LED on each side?
