ramair cracked

Have been contacted by ramair
And they have been on here and read this post or someone forwarded it to them
They have told me they are going to send me a new filter
So fingers and toes crossed **** i will even cross my eyes
That it doesn't happen again as i really do like the idea of the filter they have made thats y i choose it to begin with
Im also happy with there custom service in replying etc and helping resolve my problem

Be interesting to see if it were just a bad batch of the silicon rubber, Lets hope so for those that have gotten them. I would have gotten one had I not already bought my K&N 4040's as I thought it was a good idea

Good for Ramair standing behind their product.

That's great nice to see someone stand by their product. On another note their is not a lot you can use and keep the full bear claw. the 2780's, ram air, and I know Nev sells uni filters since your down under. I also know Piper-cross and ITG both have foam filters like the UNI filters nev uses. you van get a set of foam filters that will go over the OEM Velocity Stacks via wire ties. Then besides using the OEM stack but the clamp also. This will also fit under the bear claw. Nev might have tried this already and either way would have valuable info/technical opinions that would benefit all. I do not have a ram air filter to personally critique one nor am I promoting any brand over the other. I am just talking about my opinions based on making a piper-cross base for a NA Rocket I had. I do like the concept/functionality of their filter. But my view is from listening to the pros and cons of other captains that have installed it. And Nevs tuning findings which when Nev types I read and digest!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I was Ram-Air and wanted to improve on the filter I would say there are two routes. one make a change in the mold to match the raised radius on the throttle bodies then OEM style clamps maybe used, ( I think I would still use two wire ties as pointed out by a captain above which I like) or modify the existing mold base plate to incorporate the OEM Velocity Stacks. Which ever is easier on mold modifications since they have bell mouths in their design. And last would be a metal base plate that will take the OEM Velocity Stacks. I would also agree and keep the air temp sensor in the filter. in fact I also added the barometric pressure sensor to mine also.

Now if cutting the claw is not a problem then the design and building of a unique filter is your next task.

Same thing happened to me. I was able to glue the rubber back together as it had only split, mine also popped off, After reinstalling them this time with the original triumph clamps off the plenum, Ive had no more trouble, I believe their supplied clamp cut in to the rubber. the triumph ones are better designed and do not cut in. to date no further problems with them popping off.

I spoke with PiperCross, ITG and RAMAIR about so called "filter socks" for bellmouths - all said the same thing - ONLY IF NOTHING ELSE WORKS. They will actually restrict a bit as they end up with very little internal volume.

Frankly I think something like this wwill be better than filtersocks.



I.e the outer part of the triumph plenum system with the top cut off and filter medium affixed. ime flowed better than triple K&N's.

The foam cam from RAMAIR - it's what prompted us to ask them about making the filter.

Just wondering what testing you did in forming that opinion. Don't get me wrong, I reckon making use of the stock plenum and associated clamps and bell mouths in this way makes perfect sense and seemingly would be a more robust and better fitting product than what Ramair put on the market. All the talk about better flow is fine but I'm wondering if that should be an end in itself. Doesn't there just need to be enough flow? More important than theoretically better numbers would be a product that stayed on and didn't fall apart. I'll be interested in seeing if Ramair makes any changes to its product.

Scott - Actually I'm not sure there is room to get the OEM stacks inside a foam filter that fits under the claw without them getting deformed by the foam. There is not a hell of a lot of clearance twixt RAMAIR outer and the claw and the OEM rubbers are cut away to avoid touching the much thinner Triumph plenum wall. I'm not sure - but I think this was also discussed when Colin talked with RAMAIR. The Ramair has radiused inlets - but iirc the "bell-mouths" would not fit. In teh Custom ITG Colin had made (which I now have, and I think you had for a while) the bell-mouths JUST fit in but there is not a chance in hell of it fitting under the claw.

Basically the PCV trim values smoothed out. I didn't say it flowed more - but was imo better - smoother. Robust - maybe - but the number of times the wire support mesh and I connected makes us blood brothers. The Ramair has allowed me one plus - a fire/heat wall between the filter and under tank area. Add Les's claw and I'm sure I'm getting a cooler air feed. My current combo most certainly is an improvement over stock - as I had to go "stock" for the MoT test - and it felt VERY sluggish stock. The current combo (Ozclaw, Ramair, firewall) fulfils several needs.

1) it does not look too far from stock - so police ignore it. If I fitted one like yours (and I did consider it after talking to one of the UK guys with something similar) I'd be stopped constantly - it's so obviously not stock.
2) it's almost as quiet (from riders POV) as stock - something the Custom ITG very much is NOT and ime the triple K&N 2780's were not either.
3) Flows better than stock. especially above 4000rpms.

Is it optimal for performance - almost certainly not.
