RAAIII Check In

You could only make that comparison if both bikes were stock and you were running different grades I'd think.

Is your speedo run off your front wheel or off the motor? The difference in rear tires would account for something.

Still, 37-43 out of a stock bike is impressive for something that size.

premium fuel

I had never put premium in prior to the trip. Over my 1200 miles I put it in when ever it was available. Would say I get a little more range (better economy mid 30's vs low 30's) and maybe a little less popping on decel. It is hard to really nail it down because each tank saw a little different riding condition and not always the same type of fuel.

I think I became a believer on the trip.

It is a little over 900 miles to Galveston same as the distance to Carlsbad NM...

Too bad I am out of money:mad:

Hero,
I am not comparing mileage between bikes they are night and day from each other, and like billz said each tank saw different ridding conditions, But I wanted to compare the difference between discount and name brand and low to mid and high grad fuels. Butt all in all even though there were a lot of variables I believe the results were pretty clear.

The return home for us stragglers wasn't uneventful. We got into Missouri and a helpful farmer dropped a bungie cord onto the highway and I ran over it. My rear Metz put up one hell of a fight (NOT....the farkin' thing popped right then and there, less than a 1000 miles on it ) and I had to pull off. Luckily there was a Mo Dot maintenance shop right there and I wallowed right on in. Danno was behind me and followed. The Mo DOT road crew guys came out and had an air tank. After plugging the tire (All of you really need to keep a tire repair kit onboard) I pulled the Rocket into their shop and we aired the tire up correctly and checked things over. Flipper had doubled back and was helping out also.

Tomo, I'll bet the helpful farmer who dropped that was Flip!!
Glad you had no misadventure when it popped!!

wow!

Paul,
your memory is very accurate. my receipts and calculator verify your numbers to be dead on.... I can't argue any thing you said, but maybe Heather can. :D:D:D

by the way, ike looks to nail both of us with heavy winds and rain. I'm thinking about running for a few days, wanna go too?
