As you can imagine, my R3 engine uses much stronger valve springs. One of the things I'm concerned about is the stock cam chain. IMO better to source a stronger chain than replace the cam chain for every race. Precision cam chains which are heat treated, hard coated and 30% stronger can be custom made. Given the retail price of Hayabusa high-strength cam chains, I'm guessing the longer R3 chain will cost something under $200 each in small quantities. If anyone is interested in a group buy, please note your interest here.

Would it work with the stock sprockets ?

Yes. It would be exactly the same specs as the stock cam chain, but heat treated and coated for 30% greater strength. It is claimed that the treatment also makes the chain "silent", but IMO probably only somewhat quieter.

Will you be doing anything with the tensioner blade?

No, but I am modifying the APE manual cam chain tensioner to better fit the R3 cam blades. If you look carefully at the contact angle between the APE foot and the R3 cam blade, you will see that the foot contacts the blade at an angle, completely inferior to the contact area of the stock tensioner foot. It is easy to over tighten the APE unit because their foot cuts into the plastic blade. The resulting destruction cannot be blamed on the cam blade, which was forced beyond it's design limit.

Manufacturer doesn't expect a problem to make 170 link cam chain for R3. No word on minimums yet, but have sent stock example to expedite process.

I would be interested in one thanks ,

OK Pete, you're in.

I love dealing direct with Japan, they are serious people. Manufacturer advises me they are very interested, and will only require an initial order of 5 units to produce. They also have given me a SUPER price: $60 USD each (cost) plus international shipping. Time for production is 80 days, so I'm going ahead with the minimum order. If anyone else that wants one at this wholesale price (plus shipping), post up here. If I don't hear different, I'm only ordering 5 units. :)
