For those of you that have the triple K&N mods, I have a question..

I know you can get wet pre-charger covers for the triple, filters.

However, with the crankcase breather installed, etc. does rain become a problem? It seems like every time we go on a long-haul trip we run into a bunch of rain at some point.. and I don't want to go through with the mod if rain will be a problem

I have this mod setup and have been through some MONSOON like rainstorms on many occasions and never any issue with water contamination whatsoever.

The crank case vent is protected well in the back of the engine so ran is not a problem.

You should clean it every now and then as if it plugs up crank case pressure has to go somewhere.
Remeber you are using a filter designed to suuck air thru, yet you are using it backwards so you will not see how dirty it gets until **** has soaked thru the filter from the inside.

Which reinforces the point - even if it were exposed, it blows, not sucks.

However, I do have a question. That small filter replaces the positive ventilation you have when it was connected to the air box. I'm just wondering if, in addition to risking getting it clogged (and also being a potential source of an oil drip eventually), that loss of positive ventilation could have any detrimental effect, and if so, is there any point in doing something like, say, routing a line to one of triples??

Just to add another voice to the reassurance... I have been out in some serious downpours with my K&Ns and not noticed any effects whatsoever... I suspect when you calculate the volume of air being sucked through them compared to the amount of water getting on them you will find it to be trivial.

i think keeping them clean and well oiled is the key
although i only clean and oil mine every 8000 kilometers so u dont need to be fanatical or anything:cool:
