Proper Helmet Fit

Here is a pretty informational video on how Aria wants their retailers to fit a helmet.
How many of you ever bought a helmet and had the sales person measure your head?

Two weeks ago at the Open house at Modesto Triumph the Arai rep told me to push the back of the helmet forward and if I could get two fingers past the first knuckle between my forehead and the helmet then the helmet was to big.

I never saw a tape measure

I've had my head measured...and have measured it myself, and my wife's head, and my dad's, and anyone else I talk to about helmets. Just to give a starting point 59cm Long Oval = Large Arai Signet-Q. Almost went Medium but it was really tight where the large was plenty tight... Even after break-in - the large still fits me right.

My ugly gourd was measured before being fitted for a helmet. The fit is perfect.

Just picked up an Arai Defiant about a month ago and the tape measure was out. Love this helmet.

I wear a XX-large; so there's usually not too much to choose from.

Never saw any tape measures; I just stuff it on, and see if I can get my glasses to fit back on over my ears (full face helmet).

That was what kept me from getting the helmet I really wanted a few weeks ago; couldn't get the glasses back on over the left ear.

As y'all know; different brands of the same size will fit differently.

Going with a good modular (all Nolan modulars have metal hinges and metal fasteners) really helps glass-wearing guys. You can keep the glasses on when putting the lid on, then just close the front. The N104 I have is outstanding. And you can get a helmet that's properly sized, may well be you're an XL in truth. Or L...

Not much point measuring unless you have no clue about where to start trying them on. Head shape is an equally important variable and the only test for that is to try the things on.
