Project Build Using a Rocket Engine

Thanks for that.

Is that a 245 width on a car tyre, or bike tyre?

18" 245

tyre width is limited by lack of clearance to driveshaft tube, I
shimmed wheel gear off the hub to increase it.
I have a couple of spare swingarms here if you wanted one to mess with, but I think you would be better off getting one purpose made by the guys who made RocketRobs

Exhaust headers should be at least 1.3/4" preferably 2" if looking for top power from a modded engine.
You have an interesting project there good luck with it & keep us up to date with your progress.

I would go with a R3T swing arm and run a axle over to a sprocket and go chain. You going to want to add a reverse gear anyway. this will just make the the car a wee bit longer and then you can go with as wide as tire as you want. 330 mc would look great.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input.

Warp... are you aware of any pics detailing the conversion you suggest?

Also, is the R3T the Touring bike? If so, why would that be preferable to the non-touring model?

Thanks again.

I think Scott's idea of chain drive is sound, if you mounted the engine transverse rather than inline output shaft would be in correct plane for chain to rear, plus gearing could be easily changed.

Ah! That makes sense to me now!

I'll turn the engine through 90 when I'm next in the garage and see what kind of shape it gives me.

Was thinking last night about mounting the engine transversely and running a chain / sprocket as suggested and hit upon the following problem...

Am I right in thinking that the Rocket engine's output turns clockwise (I've not turned the engine over, so I'm just assuming this due to the diff being on the nearside of the bike)? If so, then it's going to drive the rear wheel backwards.

The only solution I can come up with would be to run a 1:1 Quaife-type reverse box...

Mmmmm valid point there, ..... bugger a bit of extra work for you but an opportunity the alter gearing:)
