Insurance right off

Hey mate, sorry to hear your ****ty news... 10K + the 4K it has cost so far is enough to make any one of us feel like **** for you.

Now...as i am a complete **** wit when it comes to mechanics, i have no way of knowing what needs to be done, however, considering i am about to have my engine stripped down and rebuilt with a number of little upgrades I wonder if the total cost would differ greatly if I took your ****ed unit and rebuilt it. Will discuss with my mechanic and if it is going to add an extra 10k to my rebuild, we're out of luck but if considering i am going to be pulling apart a perfectly good, reliable low k engine, might reduce your cost if you pay me the difference between what my cost of improvement and rebuild to get it done to yours. Confused...

Well lets just say (incase my wife happens to read this) i take a hypothetical figure of $12k worth of work planned for my bike... if rebuilding and doing same intended work to yours costs me $15k then you give me $3k (the difference) and bolt in my stock engine. Well not completely stock, just little stuff like secondaries removed, try pod filters etc...

Send me a complete list of your repair diagnosis and i'll ask my mechanic to price up the differences and let you know. If this is a stupid **** option perhaps you can start a thread placing a list of parts required and see who may have some potential donor parts laying about.

I'm certain if you need anything I have left over (i keep all the stock stuff that comes of my bike) that you need you can have it for the cost of freight. I'll give you the pick up address and you pay for freight your end and jobs done.

If this post is ridiculous, sorry for wasting your time in reading it but I just feel perhaps between all members and guests here we might be able to help you get back on the road for less than your suggested cost.

Good luck

Ponters i think from what i understood from his post his crankcases are grenaded. They are made from an alloy that does not lend itself to being welded or repaired , by the sound of it they will need to be replaced. Hopefully he can wangle a VIN number swap a bit like when a bikes stolen , renumbered then recovered and returned to the owner. If he can do that he may be able to grab a cheaper statutory writeoff. Waiting to hear back if my mate wants to sell the spare engine. He's a fly-in -fly -out worker so not sure when i will hear from him.

Thanks for the offer Ponters, just what are you having done to your engine?

The main problem with mine is the internal bearing of the output shaft assembly failed dramaticly as well as the external (the one that usually goes) bearing. The internal bearing wrecked the area of the crankcases where it was housed, I enquired about getting it built by welding then re-machining the bearing surface.

This would still need the motor to be fully stripped and rebuilt and the output shaft area would need to be line bored to ansure it was in true alignment.
All of which would still be bloody expensive,

What may have gone on mechanicaly after the output assembly failure, I do not know that is way beyond my expertise.

I would not consider bull ****ting and lumping the problem onto someone else, we do not need two people feeling as ****ty as I do.

Just what are you doing to your motor and who is doing it?

Tomcat,
I will be very interested in your mate has to say about his spare motor

Ponters reckons he is having some time away from the site. Neville Lush has got his bike , don't know exactly what he having done to it... Before we can go anywhere with my mates set of crankcases you will need to find out about swapping your VIN numbers for numbers that have never been ' complianced ' into Australia. We were told that those numbers would never be allowed to be registered in Australia. No good buying the cases if you can't register it when it's rebuilt. You'll have to get onto Mains Roads or whatever they are called in WA and see what they have to say mate.

My R3 had one of Nevs clutches and it worked well, he also did the Tuneboy and Dyno tune when it was installed.
Thanks for the Info TC will wait for awhile.

Thats a hell of a lot of bad luck ,,, my condolensces ,, it might be a stupid question , but have you had any other quotes , reason i ask is simple if i needed a big job like that done Peter Stevens adeaide would be the last place i would ask for a quote .

Example , i got a quote of $980 dollars , for a service , i got it done elswhere for $330 ,

No other quotes at this stage, my have other irons in the fire at the moment.
It was my first encounter with Peter Stevens in Adelaide, I could not fault them, they were extremely helpfull. Mind you I must have looked pretty pissed with the diagnosis.
so credit given when it is deserved.

If you get other information on the cost of your big job let me know who is doing it.
Cheers
