Just spoke to the insurance company and they do have a option of self repair or take it to a panel shop.
some for and against
For
Ensure everything is checked
Look at replacing fuel tank and front guard ( panel shop I guess would repair the damage)
Frame checked for straight and fixed if out (not sure panel shop will do this) I doubt it is bent
replace genuine parts with better options. Ie Exhaust to a aftermarket set

Against
Using insurance company approved repairer comes with a lifetime warranty on repairs.
Having to sit back and do nothing. -Having surgery to fix Clavicle next week so it might take some
time if I go the self repair route.

Note Being a machinist [ covers all aspects of engine machine work) Toolmaking etc and also a Diesel engine fitter
as well worked on a fair few race bikes and cars in my time so this is a easy job for myself.
Looking for advice and opinions thanks

If your feeling good & in shape then DIY it . If not let the others do it & just don't accept shoddy work . After all the dealer is supposed to be a professional .

If you have a trusted dealer who will work with you (i.e. install the parts you want)... I'd go the dealer route while you're healing up. After mine, I had the pipes upgraded, etc.

If you're not concerned about selling it in the future, and there isn't frame damage, you might come out ahead accepting payment from the insurance company and fixing it yourself. I've seen some wrecked HD's go back on the road that shouldn't have, but if everyone is happy ...

Here is a list and some photos I am up to now.
Anyone have any comments on the list?
