If you check the Honda sites you will find out about a lot of problems with the rear ends on Valks and Goldwings, two GW riders in my club have had the rear end replaced, good thing about the GW replacement is that the market is saturated with spare parts due to the number of Goldwing trikes, one complete rear end with under 500 miles cost our road captain $200.00

to bad the rockets aint that cheap

I stopped by the dealer Sat to see how it's going with my big girl. They showed me that the u-jOINT was stiff an the shaft made the Diff. spline a little loose (sloppy). About 4 years ago I bought an entire rear . section from someone in Fla. converting to a Trike.. I dropped off the whole assembly and told him to instlall it completely. The other parts are on order and I might have it back in less then 2 wks.. Tomorrow I will call the Ins co and see if anything can be done with getting the rear covered as it wasn't the Diff that went bad but just the spline. I'll keep you all informed. I need a ride bad.

Good that you had purchased the parts before hand. My U-Joint was judged to be too stiff from the mechanic that worked on it unfortunately no grease fitting on it. Back to the suggestion by someone here about drilling and tapping for grease fittings. Do we buy cases of Moly 60 grease and fill the drive line completely at every tire change ? Hope you get it out soon Anthony.

If you drill the u-joint cap there is no room in the housing for the greese fitting. you put a plug in, but will that make to much vibration ? If you fill the tube with 90w greese it would make a mess all over the place. So your left with once a year take it apart and install a new Jount.

UP Date

I got a call from the dealer that Hilda is ready. I said I'll be there is 3 hrs as I was working out a ride. Just before I left I got another call, Hilda is now not ready. after taking a 3rd ride they heard noise coming form the rear of the trans. Now the engine has to come out. I think I'm done riding this year except to get her home. Time to restore my 79 Honda CX500D. parts are cheap..

Hilda's ready again

They took her for a few rides and everything is good. I had them install new bottom sprocket, timing chain, timing chain slides, magnetic oil drain plugs and adj the valves,. Under warrenty I had them replaced my ign switch (thats # 2), Installed a new starter they replaced the whole rear Trans shaft. The bearings were installed by the factory backwards (dust shield inside). They can't figure out how it lasted so long. Drive shaft was replaced on the first check out. So now all I need is some nice weather to pick her up and test it for a few days. Thank goodness I took the extended warrenty. I have never taken one on anything I've owned.

Glad to hear your back in the saddle. Judging by your posts that took a while to fix. It all came down to human error. Maybe the odds in you favor now, after all this trouble yo are due for years of trouble free riding.

Glad you had a good experience with Trebour. I didn't!

Joe's a great guy but very much under the thumb of the owner who is a class A *******. My experience proved repeatedly that their wrenches(for the most part, one of their mechanics and the service manager)were very incompetent and careless and their ownership/management to be rude and deceitful abject liars. I would not recommend an enemy to consider doing an oil change there, let alone anything more complex! worst dealership i have ever dealt with in nearly 50 years of riding.:(

Herald, I truly hope that the repair work they did for you holds up. It is recommended that you remain vigilant for any potential fallout from poor or sloppy workmanship.
