HELP!!! Backfire, pop, cut out HELP NEEDED!

Have you done the headlight relay trick yet?
Triumph in thier wisdom decided to run the full power for headlights thru ign switch which causes it to over heat and wires fall of yo will find there a couple of threads on the subject there are two ways to fixing it 1 buy the Eastern Beaver kit or make your own using two relay or one the two relay method takes the power from headlight for switching only (very low load) and uses one relay for high and another for low beam, there is no other switches being put under high load and therefore gives max brightness to lights the I relay method still runs full power thru dip switch which will cause extra resistance and possibly switch burnout eventually. This is why the eastern beaver kit is also a two relay setup yet the tight wads at triumph have only now released an upgrade kit for lastyears roadster using a single relay, it is my opinion that I would rather pay for an extra relay and have the best power supply to lights

Hey Thanks for this info. I bought a EB kit and haven't had the chance to install it. With all the friggin about at the stealership, the did a recall ignition job for me. Wasn't sure if my EB was a waste of money but this answers this.

As far as the cracking, backfiring etc, stealership had another go, got it a bit better as they didn't setup throttle position sensor. anyhow, Spoke to Neville Lush and we have decided to send it to SA to get sorted properly.

Will keep you posted as to what the issue ends up being. Such a shame Lushie is so far.

Thanks to one and all for your tips, i have listed all of them and will be working through them all.

That reminds me i better do this mod before it happens to mine. Im still running the standard factory setup

Absolutely Mitch. Hanso did mine for me (thanks again mate) and the lights are brilliant - literally. You can see them reflecting on street signs 100 metres away in bright sunshine on low beam. DO IT NOW.

I got my Stebel nautilas airhorn of ebay the seller is a shop up your way, forget electric horn air is the way to go and the nautilas is extremely compact if you decide to get one drop us a line and I will explain over the phone how simple the set up is as the peoplke in ordered mine from sold a relay wiring kit which was good value
As far as the headlight relay is concerned I have two options for you Mitch, if you want me to make you up a relay harness I could always make it label the the wires and give you instructions on how to fit it as long as you are handy with basic electronics otherwise you might be better to buy a kit from eastern beaver at about two + times the cost let me know if you want me to make one up

Thanks Hanso I'll give ya a call when I purchase the horn . The relay sounds good too mate let me know how much and when u have the time to make one up I'll go that way. Cheers much appreciated . I should be ok with wiring I re routed all mine through the bars and installed my silver bullets my self . I'm no electrics wizard but the basic stuff I cope with.

Ha Ha........:D only if you pay for the Airfare There and Back a note for you though, the bikes horn is negative switch so you need to run your positive relay switch wire directly to the horn wire and the negative relay wire to the horn source wire, memory fails me but I think I had to reverse the connections on the relay but it might be wise to check with an auto sparky, sorry but it was nearly two year ago and it is too dam hot to go and pull bike apart to trace wires to thier sources, if you connect it up as normal your horn will blow every time you turn on your ign:eek:
