The Garmin 1690 has been great!
I can make my own custom maps using this Harley-Davidson - Ride Planner
and then download them directly into my 1690.
And also can monitor all my engine functions with the Ecoroute.
This is the best GPS I have owned so far and I have had several.
I am in the process now of planning a 2000 km ride out to Quebec New Brunswick,Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and back all on the computer.
The whole trip will be loaded into the GPS.
No more maps for me!

I did not even know that my nuvi 660 would not do multiple points, until I tried to download it would only do one place to the next. The newer ones have the multipoint capability with out the multipoint you cannot download the routes little bit aggravating

Jesse, try your Nuvi 660 with the HD ride planner, see if it works?
You can put many waypoints on the map you create on the computer.
Use as many waypoints as you want and only have a start location and an end location.
Any more than 2 locations will confuse the GPS.
If you need more locations on the map on the computer you will need to right click and change them to waypoints before you load it into the GPS.
If this does not work with your 660 then you will need to get a new GPS.
Let me know if you need help.

I'm sure this is really a dumb question but do you need to add an auxilliary power jack to power the GPS up? where is it located?

there are hardwired kits for most gps. or you can add a cigarette lighter connection. depends on what you want.

Only if you want the GPS to last more than 3 hours. On the R3T there is a knock out in the plastic panel behind the engine on left side to install one, plug in on wiring harness same location, there is also a lead plug under tank to wire GPS mount into. Not sure where or if there is a lead on other Rockets.

I use a tom tom euro rider2 and found this program really helpfull.
Tyre Don't know about compatability with other systems but is worth a look.

yes I did direct off the battery it is fused with a switch in-line so I can turn it off and nobody can turn on my radio and run my battery down. I used a double cigarette lighter connection I connected it on the front between the windshield my handlebars the reason I did that my GPS has a FM antenna that is in the the plug so if you bury it under the seat it does not get signal and your GPS keeps asking you to check connections so I put it out in the open and that way I can get to it to plug up my cell phone if need be I also have my XM radio plugged in at the same location I have J&M powered speakers I have connected all three through the one wire to the battery switch operates everything I have the switch hidden.

I use the Garmin Nuvi 500. Waterproof, removable battery, multi point routing, 8 hour battery (really 5 hours at most but I carry 2 batteries), traffic ready (I just plug in the power cord and roll it up in my tank bag for the traffic antenna. No need to plug it in)and geocache friendly. No Bluetooth or XM but I think this this is great for a bike. Also works for hiking as well as auto.
