Actually, the genius Foale was educated in OZ, lived in New Hampshire, USA and now resides in Spain.

Got out today for awhile. TPS worked well for 5 miles and then gradually returned to $hit state over the next 5 miles.

If you have not checked out Tony Foale, you do so. He has even developed a computer program for chassis designing.
I saw it demonstrated in one of my motor recon classes - it made me feel TOTALLY inadequate!

The other book to get - be it older - is MOTORCYCLE ENGINEERING by Phil Irving (yes That Phil Irving - Of Vincent fame).

We all make mistakes. Spain is where engineers with a hatred of the cold go to die. Merlincar - Puny R3 engines - Pah!

It has been my great luck to have met many of the old school Chassis Gods. Rickman, Miller, Foale, and Defazio. To this day a major regret is not getting old man Defazio to make me a new front end for my Guzzi. They were in a tiny little shop in Yeovil. Never met John Britten and it's always been something I wanted to do.

Ok since originally posting this, I've switched to an Exedra Max, I'll do some measuring tomorrow and update the first post.

What I do know though, is that the 240/55 vs 240/50 for me changed nothing regarding the speed of the steering. I don't have an explanation, but the Exedra feels similar to the cobra despite the geometry change.

Changing the steering bearing, top and bottom, did greatly improve feel and feedback from the front end, which increased my confidence in flicking the bike around.

Stable somewhere north of 155mph so I'll update the original post, because I now know the slightly sketchy feel I had was all the worn out steering bearings.

Getting to the edge of the Exedra Max is awesome fun. Seat off saddle, elbows loose, head and upper body down and inside I was able to take a 270 degree 30mph ramp at just under 70 without dragging any hard parts. My car starts squeeling and understeering at like 54-55. I'm sure a real sports car would be much faster around it.

HEY what was the situation with the steering head bearings what was worn ?

Looking at the races, there is visually minimal wear. It's almost like they were slightly too short and couldn't get fully preloaded because of it. I'll post a couple pics of the races when I get home.

Phil Irving, another Aussie, no wonder the world loves us! As he liked things hotted up, I wonder if he ever liked a good Vindaloo to go with his Vindian!
