2010 Rocket Roadster with Jardines 2006 Kawasaki Concours
Hey Folks...After a 200 mile ride yesterday I noticed oil leaking from a gasket...judging from the manual I would say "Cam Cover" but quite honestly I am not sure if it might not be the head gasket. It's the gasket most visible above the headers and pretty shortly below the top of the motor. The gasket looks to be peeling out in the rear corner above the exhaust, but there is "weeping" all along the gasket.

My question before I bring it in to the only dealer I have (and whom I dont possess a lot of confidence in) is: when they replaced my stator last fall would they have had to remove this cam cover and gasket? I know they had to remove the motor. Its a 2010 Roadster with about 11,000 miles on it, no mods other than Jardine exhaust and while I do frequent 100-120 mph, I am pretty gentle in getting there.

Just trying to arm myself with some info before I go in there tomorrow-Thanks to all replys-Doug

My 'assumption' would be they reused the gasket , wouldn't be the first time a Dealer has done it when Triumph didn't have one in stock. .. did you get a receipt for repairs ..and did they charge you for a new gasket ?

To replace the stator, they don't actually remove the engine, they unhook everything and lift the bike off the engine. Same thing, but different...

They do NOT have to remove the cam cover to do this job.

Looking back now it's an easy enough job to do yourself if you have a bit of time on the tools, i just made it hard by expecting the gasket to match up easily , got it sorted on the 3rd try by using Lushies super glue technique.

Thanks Tom Cat that was my feeling as well...I am going to go through my paperwork tonight and see exactly what they charged me for...if they never removed it to do the work then I will have to go from there...I am tempted to try replacing the gasket myself

Warranty job isn't it ? Long ago i was told all manufacturers factor in $5,000 for anticipated warranty work on every new expensive bike sold. Since than i have made it my mission to extract every cent of that $5k .. been successful so far ;)

Thanks for all the input guys...looking at Ruzzles reply and what I gathered from the shop manual they probably didnt touch that part of the motor...if that turns out to be the case then it looks like I "Blew a gasket" at 11,000 miles...I will report on the outcome of my visit tomorrow...I wasnt going to touch the "Stator" job but this one...I may just get brave and give it a shot!

So now I get it!! Even though my beast is 5 years old I go in tomorrow hell-bent for leather claming factory defect on the gasket...good god you would think I would have been paying better attention for the last 2 years! Trouble is I usually only click on the threads that look like they are going to erupt into a good pissing contest...D
