This will seem a little strange (I guess). I've always been curious as to how and why different members of different forums come up with their screen names. Because this has become my favorite forum and I'm comfortable here, I'll ask.

I'll start it out...
Sidecar Flip. Obviously I have a sidecar but why Flip? Flip was my grandfathers actual legal name. I never use my legal first name except for official things. I was supposed to be a girl so I have a shortened girls name. If I was born a girl, I'd be a sl*t for sure.

My brother-in-law, BanjoBart is a derivitave but I can't tell. Only he can do that.

Toystoretom.... I used to be the manager of two different toystores for Children's Palace, a chain of stores very similar to Toys R Us (TRU). I ran the store in Omaha at 75th and Dodge (next to the Crossroads shopping center) and then later the one on Noland Road here in the Kansas City area. It was a chain of 200 or so "box" stores that went out of business in the early 1990's. Some people accuse me of putting them out of business .

I have always worked on things mechanical my entire life and in high school ect. I worked for several different gas stations and garages to help put me through college. I also worked for Harley Davidson of Omaha, and that is where I got dubbed with the "Toystoretom" name. I am now an ASE certified MasterMechanic and a Nissan Master and engine specialist. I have no desire to go back to the stress of retail management.

I think that a nickname has to be given to you by others... If you name yourself, well, thats just silly...

Just Call Me Silly

Nothing complicated about choosing my name. Horizontal Hero was already used by someone on the CB so I just chose what I do. MAN PLAYING A PIANO was too long so I chose to [Flip] the name around .......sorry Flip - I couldn't pass that one up.....and got Piano Man.

I've been playing and singing since I was 4 and have been doing it professionally since I was 16. Great life though you'll never get rich....... I'm doing something I love to do and I get paid for it. I've heard people say if you love what you do then it's not work and if it's not work.....you don't mind doing it anytime.

Okay, I'll tell one on myself and I don't mean to top Flip's story but on my birth certificate is the following statements.

NUMBER OF MONTHS MOTHER IS PREGNANT: They accidentally put a 0 after the 9
SEX: The doctor wrote " FE " then crossed it out and put MALE.

The reason I know this is because in Kansas City you could ride the streetcars and busses for free until you turned 13. I was sooooo large for my age that my parents had me carry a copy of my birth certificate to prove to the driver I was young enough to ride free.

Boy, this lets a bunch of old baggage loose and it's cheaper than lying on a couch and paying a phycologist!

Jamie? Just my initials, JME. It happens to be the way my first baby-sitter in Washington DC called me... and years later, the way my American employers kept on calling me... during 33 years. I suppose my real first name, Jean-Michel, was (is?) too much of a mouthful. Amusingly enough, the French members of the regional Rocket club (RCE) I co-founded a month ago ONLY call me Jamie .

Hondax is my handle but how I got there is understood better if you were me,...but here goes.
I was a member of a Honda trail bike forum and my original handle was Cee Tee 70. After some time and many different types of single cylinder Honda's and forums I thought it logical to universalize my handle. So, "Honda", because I am a Honda man, and "X" because of another forum member named "RacerX" inspired me to add the "X". That's how I became Honda-X. But wait,......here's where it gets tricky: "Dax" refers to small Honda's shipped to places other than US market. "Dax" versions met different standards internationally than ours. Anywho, I like the "Dax" versions better than US. Why does this matter? Simple! I was originally called Hon-dax, but now I've morphed into Honda-X,.......See?
Both version are fine to use, as well as Jeff, my real name.

Coming clean....almost.

I'd better come clean as it's put. My name was supposed to be (ready for this)...Darlamarlene but since I was born a male, it was changed to Daryl, pronounced Dar(L). I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised there. A quirk of fate and my wife turned a city boy into a country bumpkin and I'd never go back (to the city that is).

I took my apprenticeship in tool and die making at Standard Products in Cleveland but I developed a severe reaction to water emulsified coolants so I found other work, mainly, driving a truck which is what I've done for over 35 years now, however, I've always liked to work with my hands and machine tools so I started my own fabrication and custom machining business to do odd jobs and make things for myself. I build live steam engines and restore and refurbish South Bend lathes and related machine tools when I have time.

I also collect Zippo lighters and Triumph motorcycles (as of late). I (we) farm around 300 acres with Soldwish Livestock farms. Between farming, the shop and driving 55 plus hours a week, I have very little free time which I'm going to adjust starting next year.

There, I've spilled my beans too.

I hope BanjoBart gets on this thread. He is a very interesting person both in profession and hobbies, but I'll let him tell you guys if he desires.

SidecarFlip kinda sounds like a confectionary treat at the local DQ to me, but it makes more sense than FlipSidecar. I guess I could be Flipoff. That's kind of what my attitude has become now that I'm over 50. You know, replace the lip with uck.

I have been given a few "nick" names by others, but none of them are suitable for viewing on a public forum.

I am Banjo Bart because I make banjos for a living. Don't ask me to play, it reminds me of work.

Or banjo brains if I ask too many dumb questions.

You make it sound dull. I guess, for you, it is, but how many people make a good living making banjo's besides you. In 20 odd years, I have never heard you ask a dumb question though you've heard me spout a few dumb ones. Actually, your whole family is very interesting to me. Even your sister.

Hummm....Jimbeamrye. It was 1996 and I just got my first new computer and was trying to set up an account with AOL version 2.5. They had 8 million customers by then and I was having a hard time picking out a screen name. For an hour it kept telling me everything I wanted had been taken. It was a Saturday morning from a long friday night party. And sitting on the table next to me was a 5th of good ole rye whiskey. The label clearly said...."JIMBEAMRYE" and for the hell of it I typed it in and it permanetly became my master screen name. I have since riddened myself from the $$$ sucking AOL and went to better, cheaper services. Once you go broadband, you never go back!
