Foglight (Highway light) bulb replacement

For those interested the 100 watt bulbs are 11.00 each 7.00 for the relay. Wiring I had in stock at home and my time. Then knowing I solved my lighting issue while driving at night. All less than 50.00 and 2 hours. Sometimes I buy solutions sometimes I build solutions.

Well, finally stopped vacillating and ordered the JW Speaker 8700 Evo 2 in chrome. So now my headlight should throw insane amounts of light down the range. Have to wait a couple of months to buy the fog light reflectors - they're as pricey each as the single 7-inch, and I'm running out of improvement money after all this upgrading... will report back how bright I think it is once it's on there.

I know this thread is way old. Been looking to get LED lights for the headlight and Auxiliary lights. (Rocket 3 Touring)
Pardon my ignorance, but why not just buy an LED bulb to replace the standard OEM ones?
Do LED's required a different reflector, possibly?

You can but they are not as good as a total replacement. The reflector is not really set up to maximize the light output of the led type bulbs.

These posts are very old, but since the thread has become current (no pun intended!!!) will take opportunity to correct some mis-perceptions:

The headlight does, but the auxiliary lights do NOT pass current through the key-switch

The first thing I did with my R3T was swap out the stock bulbs with Sylvania Silverstar. They are easy to find in auto and department stores.

Do they draw more power than the stock bulbs?

Yes they DO draw more current. A pair of 55W bulbs draw about 9 amps; a pair of 35W bulbs less than 6.

The Aux lights already use a relay as OEM so there would be no reason to add additional relay.
I would not recommend using 100W bulbs in the OEM lamp housing or connector plug.

I personally think the best solution would be to replace the lamp module with an LED module.

Agreed. On a Touring, there's a great and quite affordable option even - just buy a set of Truck-lite LED. The 7-inch Phase 7 and two 4.5 inch matching driving light reflectors can be had as a set for $300-something off eBay or Amazon, and it's all tested and approved for on-road use. JW Speaker or Vision X do tend to cost a bit more.

Are the OEM halogens on "T"s only 35W. Pretty sure the old fisheye fogs for the Standards are 55W. Cant look as I machined the innards out and fitted 10W LEDS in. This before commercial options appeared. I have some pictures somewhere - I'll look.

When I had my touring I did the same thing switch to the 55 watt after a few months they burnt the wiring under the tank where they were connected after that I went back to the 35 watt bulb
