Foglight (Highway light) bulb replacement

There are unfortunately lots of idiots out there who think running with brights on in the daytime increases safety. The only thing it really does is annoy the hell out of other motorists and make them look away from it. I don't know about you guys but I want them to look at me to see where I am.

Not to get off on a tangent, but why would you think that running the hi-beams during the day would be annoying to cagers? I can see at dawn or dusk... but during the day it's not bright enough (at least not brighter than my chrome!)... or maybe that's cause here in Las Vegas clouds are not in abundance... Heh!

Brights in the daytime are still too bright to be comfortable, especially once you go to LED's or (illegal, ie all) HID conversions. It's a point light source that shines straight into the eye at eye level in a car. Plus of course that the brights mean that the other motorists coming at you won't even see turn signals or be able to accurately judge your position, speed or intent. It's just a bad idea overall.

Yeah I'm now considering the Truck-lite and combining it with JW Speaker driving lights, they output tons more light than the Truck-lite driving lights (almost 800 lumens vs under 300). I just hope it wouldn't look too funny.

I'm running the Truck-lite's Main and Driving Lights. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. You-Tube doesn't do it justice. They light up the world. The Driving lights help ambient light around the area you are driving. The main one has an LED that lights up the upper portion of the bulb. It displays a horizon with everything below the line clear and bright. You put on the High Beams and a second LED on the lower half of the bulb lights up. I was not disappointed. And they CAN be seen in the daytime from the side. Funny how HD riders want the Harley LEDs for twice the money when it is the same bulb but with the Harley emblem on them. LOL

Oh, you will notice I had to remove my visor on the main light. The Fit was so perfect there was no room for it in the housing.

Well, to be fair, the Harley Daymakers are JW Speaker products (made for Harley) so they're not the same headlight. But in the 7 inch range the Truck-lite is more appealing, I like how the high beam and low beam are both active when you want full light.

Still thinking about whether or not to go with JW Speaker 4.5 inchers... too bad they're expensive. Thanks for posting the pic though, looks great - and I don't like headlight visors anyway so... :)

sliiddrhd,
where did you get the foglight visors? i tried ordering some and was told they're "obsolete."

If daytime visibility is your goal try replacing your fog/driving light bulbs with amber bulbs. In a sea of white amber bulbs stand out.

Silly question: what type of bulbs are the highway lights ?

What if, just sayin' . . . one obtained 80W, 90W, 110W bulbs to put in there, upgrade the wiring and go direct to the battery with a suitable relay (Eastern Beaver comes to mind), and thus have plenty of light when needed ?

They're very small. You'd no doubt have major heat issues and use a lot of power for no reason compared to LED, all three can be replaced for $380-390 off eBay. Just one man's opinion of course.
