Foglight (Highway light) bulb replacement

Silly question: what type of bulbs are the highway lights ?

What if, just sayin' . . . one obtained 80W, 90W, 110W bulbs to put in there, upgrade the wiring and go direct to the battery with a suitable relay (Eastern Beaver comes to mind), and thus have plenty of light when needed ?
You can. I finally had to change a bulb and blew a fuse. I did exactly what you suggest using the same concept as wiring in the air horn, put in relay with a 20 amp fuse and use the same wiring and switch to operate driving lights. So the fog lights of 35 watts each now are driving lights of 100 watts each and since lens is glass no problem with heat.

Might you provide the part number (link) for the bulb you used, please ?

The bulb is a Sylvania 64153 H3 type 100 watt. I has these bulbs in for two years without any problems. finally a bulb went out and blew a fuse so I rewired with 16 gauge wire using a relay as used when installing a electric air horn. So the switch on the handle bars is still the in operation as on and off for driving lights. Another modification I've done is in stall a three box LED switch which I am running XM radio, amp for radio and LED lights on the bike. It is intended for Honda Shadow brake master cylinder but using a aluminum mounting plate and wide Velcro has not fall off even at triple digit speeds or so I have heard ;). LOL any other questions PM me.

for bikes the Truck-Lite pattern is less binary

Not sure I'm sure what you mean with binary in this context. :) I've read the review, and was all set to get the Phase 7 set. Then JW Speaker made the 8700 Evo 2 that is ridiculously bright and shoots even wider to the sides than the Phase 7 and they slashed the price too. And it now has a lifetime warranty. So now I'm getting an ugly 4-lens light instead of the pretty Truck-lite.

How do you have that XM set up? Also, do you use speakers or earbuds?
Thanks Cat

The JWS have a great beam pattern on non tipping/tilting/banking platforms - But the trucklight pattern (it's to do with how the light is managed) makes them (ime) better on bikes. I have JWS on the Rocket - Trucklite on the Guzzi. I make my own LED lights and anything managed with lenses gives a very crisp cut off. But a bit of a soft edge helps in turns. It's why I'd love to see somebodies experience with a PRIMO RIVIERA - Amongst other things I'm a fan of the LED they use.

I'm still looking at the Truck-lite too, vacillating now between the two. The brand new 8700 Evo 2 has a massive beam pattern, something like twice the size of the 8700 Evo pattern, but the total cost for all three JWS lights will pretty much reach a thousand euros if I import it, compared to $350 plus taxes/shipping (easily under 500 euros) for a full set of three Truck-lites. So that's a pretty dramatic cost increase, but also a dramatic light output increase. The difference could pay for most of an McCruise system... I may "settle" for Truck-lite.

Sorry, seems I went and hijacked the bulb thread. My bad. In my defense, it's a bad idea to put 100 watt bulbs in the fog lights when you can buy two Truck-lite LED replacements for under $200 for the pair. :p

I am using speakers mounted to the handle bars, the amp and unit is mounted under the tank, antenna mounted on left side handle bar.
