Exhaust setup and tune questions

I hate the noise the K&N 's make .. i'll never get used to it. Even with the bitumen sheeting i melted inside my bearclaw it still drives me nuts. I've got to sort out some way of stopping it .. even thinking of going back to the underseat filter. I've always hated rattles and annoying noises on my bikes.

The noise issue is why I may try the venting. I can keep the bottom of the claw intact to reduce noise but open it up at the top a bit with the vents to the K&Ns breath a little better. Plus ...I think the vents would look really sweet if done tastefully.

I know what you mean. Sometimes the noise seems louder that the TORs mufflers I have.

Hey guy I wonder if the Pipercross set up that Warp has being playing with would be quieter as it is drawing air thru a larger filter area and being a common area it may also get rid of the cricket sound which I was told is possibly due to harmonic disturbance in the inlet tract which may be balanced if it to were draw air from a common area, You could even create a secondary cover for the filter with in inlet facing forward, but not necessarily a ram air set up

Just an Idea to ponder over

It would actually be interesting to see if Cobba's original prototype intake manifold that Richard is now the proud owner of would be much quieter as far as the crickets are concerned, you will always get induction roar:)

Great discussion guys. I'm doing the same mods to my machine.

My Rebands are on order as are a set of K&N 2780s and I just received my PC5 - should I be looking at an auto tuner? Would that do away with the need for a dyno setup? Are there any drawbacks?

depends on are you planning to do internal mods later also you said you are getting the 2780's while they are good for a stock motor with just a exhaust system they will be working at their limits you would have been better order larger filters if planning to do cams and pistons,
Just thought I would mention that in case it is not to late to change your order :)

I love my Auto tuner but I don't have easy access to a dyno tuner and I have developed a map that works well, it adjusts the fuelling regard less of changes I make so if I were to revert to a restrictive exhaust it will automatically cut back the fuel and vice versa

just a note I have been getting requests daily even someday a couple a day for my new revised AFR Map and you are welcome to it just send me your e-mail adress in a PM

Well I was keeping that quiet for a bit while I work out what I'm going to do. But yes, I'm fortunate (and extremely grateful - not to mention honoured) to have that prototype. I don't recall Cobba (RIP) discussing the noise so it will be interesting to see.

For those who don't know what we're talking about, look here:

The one pictured in that thread apparently stayed with the bike when the insurance co. took it but the prototype was pretty similar if not as refined. I'll be sure to keep people updated.
