Living Legend
Not really (on the dyno tune)
I have one on my R3 Classic and I installed it on to eliminate the trailing throttle (decel pop) that's synonymous with lean trailing throttle on emissions compliant engines. I tend to run what I sell first to make sure the product does what it says it will and it does and it does it without removing the Lambda (o2 sensor)
I'm not out for maximum power but I am all for a cooler running engine and one that don't 'fart' on trailing throttle.
An interesting tidbit and one I'll claim not to know about is Dobeck originally designed and marketed the Power Commander, then sold the rights to, of all people, K&N who then sold the rights to Dyno-Jet. I believe K&N had a full plate with their filter business and as an afterthought, sold off the PC rights.
The Dobeck unit is substantially less than the Power Commander and less than the original (non-hacked) Tuneboy. One thing I like about the Dobeck unit is it allows roadside adjustment of the a/f ratio to suit your whims, the Tuneboy requires a laptop as well as the hacked version. Not so with the Dobeck unit and the Dobeck is analog, that is, it tunes with a screwdriver, just like old fashion carbs did and still do.
I don't matter what tune is installed in the ECM because the Dobeck unit intercepts the injector signal prior to it getting to the injector, routes the signal (via a piggyback molex plug) to the TFI unit and modifies the signal to your settings and then returns the modified signal to the injector to control the pintle open duration...and it's plug and play with only the piggyback plugs to install and a ground wire. The TFI unit is powered from the injector harness itself. It's small and fits handily under the right side tin.
