Change Tires at Home

I didn't read all the replies. When I do mine, I use huge zip ties to cinch the tire down, then pull it off the rim. It's not a particularly easy task, however, it may be worth it to you. A single spoon, static balancer from China Parts INC (aka Harbor Freight), and some weights and your good!

Zip tie the tire 6 places, evenly spaced, then force off with a spoon and some effort and you're good.

If you're getting $30 mount/balance service, I consider $30 worth the effort, and since I get it locally (4 blocks away), I let them fight it LOL.

The only trick I got is longest tire spoons you can find for leverage. I use 2 spoons and 1 straight. I do have a bead breaker which makes things alot easier. Plenty of lube going back on. After a few sets it gets easier and quicker. Tractor supply has some irons that are good.

I'm tempted, after reading some of these posts, to try doing the rear again myself next time around. $47.61 the shop charges me here and they can't even balance the d@#n thing.

The last time I used Motion Pro tools to break the bead (they work well) and some long irons from Harbor Freight. It took so much force that I was concerned that I was going to bend the rim. You guys that regularly replace the rear yourselves- Any concern about bending the rim? If I can yard on it as hard as seems necessary, I think I can make a go of it, but it just seemed like way too much force being applied with those long irons. What say ye?

Question: To those of you who routinely change the rear tire, is bending the rim a real concern that we should worry about?... Likely? Possible? No worries mate?

It helps a lot with the zip ties but remember ****** rocket tires don’t have as stiff of a sidewall.

I think im going to actack it a different way. I'm going to toss my Coats 4040A , and buy me a used rim clamp machine :) But I will still cut the tires off, its just easier and well no chance of screwing the rim up going off.

To me, cutting a tire off was a "Redneck solution". Until I did it. I think I will clean the tire lube off before filling with air next time as @rjsjota does. And look for some of the watery "Ruglyde". I will look into that tywrap method. My spoons are only about 6 or 7 inches long. Bought them in about 1973 or so. "They" are old
