Change Tires at Home

i thought i would do mine
took it off the bike put it in a vise with wood to protect the rims unseated both sides then tried to get it off after a couple of rim nicks i took it to the dealer.
i have since ordered a couple of the rim savers (protectors) and will try again soon.

So, are you going to let us in on the proper way?? Or let us hang??
once the beads are broke I just cut around the side wall both sides. Then the two pieces left on the rim with he bead cable I just snap it with a little set of bolt cutters. Its fast then a rim clamp machine can take it off. haven't tried to fit one yet but I did bring a rim to try if I get bored.

Do not buy the Harbor Freight garbage. A real POS. Spoon them on the ground. Mount them with the yellow dot at the valve stem. Cheap Harbor Freight motorcycle wheel balancer works good enough, but could be reinforced. Be careful not to do any hole shots until the tire is dry around the bead because the dot will move

When breaking the bead, I mounted a 4x4 to the wall and use a bottle jack between the tire and the 4x4. Pops it right off. And at this point it is easier to cut it off. There will be a steel ring around the bead

BeadPro Tire Bead Breaker and Lever Tool Set will work. As TheKid said, I also ended up cutting the tire off the rim after spending way too much time fighting it. Getting the new one on is another story altogether.

I cut up a lid from a 5 gallon bucket and used them for rim protectors. Next time I will have a couple more spoons two are not enough. The tyrap trick allows you to put both beads on at the same time. Lots of lube makes the whole process easier.

Hey any of you do it your selfer’s try filling your own teeth?:D:D:D:D:p

Some things are best done by some one else. My shop has the right tools and they said it still was quite a job.

I take the tires and rims off the bike and do what is called in shop terms as a carry in. Bring it back home with tire mounted and install. Works great. Never tried filling a tooth but have pulled a few or two. Painful as hell.:roll::roll::roll:

Having tried it, I agree- just leave it to a good shop. My problem is no one can balance the rear (their solution is dynabeads) and they still want $49. I need to find a smaller shop to mount the tire for less, but have found that if I want it properly balanced I have to do it myself. You guys are lucky if your shop can mount and balance for $20. I've taken it to auto tire shops and they say that they can't do it either.
