Carpenter Sidewinder

When moving the air keeps the heat away from you, I wonder if the ones who complain about the heat have any kind of fairing or wind deflectors?.
tbh I think a couple of things impact the heat sensation (apart from the pipes).

Does cool air help - yes. I have air deflectors pushing air towards the engine for this reason.
I think a large screen maybe lifts heat more to the upper leg through turbulence - but that may just be a general perception of no direct wind.

But foot/leg position depending on physical build and rest position. And riding style.
Boot height and or pants leg materials.
Two sorts of heat - airflow will not eliminate burns (extreme case) from radiation. Been there - just once - wear longer socks.
Ambient heat. If you're riding in 50°C (or even 40) the air chill effect is lessened quite dramatically.

Pipes look good and no doubt will work well (esp on a matched motor) - but I'll pretty much guaranty MY knee would hit that rear header if fitted to MY R3 as it is comfy for ME to ride - So for me that would affect seriously riding gear choice.

i.e no kilt unless you staple fibreglass to your inside leg. But I know Scots like that sort of thing - Many actually get exiled for it.

edited - Do those "condoms" come in leg covering sizes I wonder.

Pipes look ace Mr Wallace ...talking of heat and anyone running tubular headers, you will be amazed of the heat thats absorbed or kept in when the pipes are wrapped...my leg can be 2" away and allthough its hot its not getting burnt. Ile do a temp test on bare steel and on the wrapped section maybe today and report my findings

Being a total know nothing about pipes, what are the darn springs for?
If you look at Dave's picture of all the parts, you can see how many places the exhaust goes together. Instead of using pipe clamps, they use springs to hold it together. Usually you only see this in race applications, but Carpenter is a race shop so...

The pipes are not all one piece, but in sections that slip into one another.
The springs keep the fitted pipes together.

What is the advantage of this?
Someone will explain ;-)

Thanks for the education, I remember locking down the pipes under my Blazer and Chevelle years ago with the clamps you mention and see how they would look atrocious on a bike.
