Hello All! :D
As some of you know I am currently looking to trade my 08 Touring in for new Roadster.
Well last night I think I had my very first Epiphany....:p

Instead of buying a new bike why not just ship my touring cross country and have Carpenter put in the 240 h.p kit?

I am going to call Carpenter tomorrow but first I have some questions that I hope can be answered here...

1) I have read somewhere that the reason the R3's (Roadsters, standards, and classics) have the larger rear tire is to handle the extra H.P that the tourings do not have, If this is true, will my Tourings smaller rear tire and drive train handle the extra H.P?

2)Will the Triumph dealers still perform any future services? (probably a dumb question)

3)Do these Mods from Carpenter affect the Reliability of the bike? either positively or negatively?

4)Currently my detent spring on my Tranny needs repair, is replacing this spring part of Carpenters upgrade? (That would save me some money)

5)Has anyone heard Carpenters Megaphone exhaust? how does it sound?
Here is the cost break down the way I see it...

240+ H.P package $6200.00
Exhaust $1500.00
Shipping (door to door) $1500.00

Thats $9200.00 round it up to $10,000 and thats a savings of about $7000.00 over a new Rocket.

I havent decided to do this I'm just weighing my options, what do you guys think?

All opinions, comments are welcome! ;)

Thanks Fellas

What to do what to do

If all opinions are welcome...even mine
Look at the mileage on your bike. Not to say something else can happen. The Daytona Triumph dealer had last years model (new)
for $13,500 plus an extra $1500 of free accessories.

I'd do more shopping and see how aggressive they want to deal.
For a few grand more you have a new bike and a warranty. And you can finance it. Or if it's just plain speed you want...
start building a crate with a Jersey shipping label.

That's a ****ed good idea, Jim! You will not only save alot of scratch, but you will enjoy one of the most powerful tourers west of the Mississippi and your bike will be way better than "brand new".;)

Carpenter has done a couple of Tourer upgrades and, so, YES, it will carry the Silverback treatment just fine! Let me know if you'd like to speak with Art (IMFASTTOO), the co-creator of the Carpenter kitted motors. He's a wealth of info! PM me for his #s and be sure to include your own!

Sounds like a very viable option, Jim. While it is always nice to have a new bike, they don't stay new for long and the huge bonus with the Silverback treatment is that you get, well, a Silverback!. What a wolf in sheep's clothing you'll have with your Touring, which I have to say kinda suits you. I guess the main thing to worry about is how tired other bits of the bike are; you don't want this major investment to turn into a spending spree just to keep her on the road.

Just another thought. You can give your Touring more go than a Roadster and frankly more go than you 'need' by spending a whole less than the Carpenter upgrade. Pipes, intake and tuning will give you 150+ hp and 160+ torque and a very rideable bike for $1-$2 grand.

Do you really honestly need that sort of power ? When a Reband exhaust and exposed K&N's gives you 160BHP at the wheel (at $2,200 on top of the cost of a new R3R) As much as I enjoyed riding Ponters bike after Lushy worked his magic on it .. doubt i'd have a licence after 6 months riding it. Found it extremely difficult to not ride it fast. Now i don't pretend to have a great deal of self-control , well when it comes to motorcycle performance anyway. I really have to watch myself on my Speed Triple .... Just my thoughts.

The engine and final drive are the same as the roadster and standard. The transmission should have the upgrades in a 2008 model. There is also a 210 H.P. mod for $4400 W/O the hi comp. pistons. Just my $.02 Marty.:)

I like your math

You forgot to back out the 8k or so from selling your current bike Sell your '08 Tourer and the new one is 1/2 paid for. You aren't saving any money by spending an extra 10 grand. You can either have a new Roadster or you can have a more powerful Tourer. Which do you really want? If you don't get the Carpenter kit on the '08 will you be doing it soon on the new bike?

I still owe 5k on the tourer and am due for the 20k tune up, so I think that's a wash......
