If you are reasonably familiar with the tools in your garage you shouldn't have much trouble and the folks on here are usually more than willing to help, and yes you could use those for the new cable. Just make sure that you have a good connection on either end of the cable. Before you start tearing into anything though I assume that you have checked all of the simple things? Fuses, etc? The reason that I ask is that if you are hooking up two batteries and it still won't fire you may have an ignition problem as opposed to a starter problem. Also check the low tension leads that connect to the ignition coils. These are known to work themselves loose over time.
