444 shock upgrade questions

Well thanks for that information. Guess i should sell these and buy some hd 444s
Anyone looking to buy a set?
Why can't you just get the hd springs for the shocks you have? Unless you asked for the 13", they should send you the correct standard size (12.5").

The standard 444's are ideal for the Bonneville family, might want to hit up TriumphRat.net or something also if you want to move them. Though the non-standard length may be a bother for some.

I'm a big lump 330lb so the 444 HD suits me fine. I also have the 13" and Exedra 55 profile with the 0.5" extra height both of which can improve front end steering response and was certainly noticeable when they replaced the std Triumph shocks. fitted the matching front springs with 10w oil and the difference is now very noticeable. Some may find the front end a bit too hard with 10w for rough roads but I'm happy.

well after doing some research, turns out my 440s were hd springs to begin with.
Course progressive won't have parts to fix their mistake till mid june apparently. I like their product, but their warranty center and the way they run their business pisses me right off.

Never had to deal with that end yet, but customer service is crucial if you want to retain said customers when things go wrong.

Now I'm confused - the replacement upgraded 444 shocks they sent you have std spring rates. The original 440's failed under warranty and you now find they had HD not std springs as you thought - did you ask for a replacement with std or HD springs or did you leave that up to them?

Also the 444's have "A top mount threaded pre-load adjuster allows for fine tuning with a simple twist of the cap." This is not a 4 stage ramped pre-load as earlier 440, or current 430 or 412 models. It is possible they sent you a set of 440's with 444 std springs.

440s were not a 4 stage ramped preload either, they were a top adjustment screw.

There are 4 lines that are revealed as you dial in pre-load using 440/444.

You'll find there are still markers in four separate places to indicate where you are on the preload. So you can tune it a bit more finely but in practice that doesn't change things a lot, if you're on the third marker just solo you need stronger springs.
