3 K&N's and no cat 2007 Classic

Well I have been running it now for a couple of weeks with Triumph download, it is lean but tolerable. I have ordered and received a new Tune Boy, will be adding it and making appointment for dyno tune.

After doing some more research I also just ordered o2 eliminator from Dyno Jet. I plan on removing and installing plug in o2 hole and attaching o2 bypass plug. I will use "canned custom" Tune Boy tune untill I get into dyno shop. I shimmed out bearclaw using 1/3" spacers and using 1/2" black foam heat duct spacer/tape glued to side of gas tank to fill the gap between tank and claw, it looks factory. The "air noise" using 3 k&n's only took 2 days to get used to [the sound of power!]. 8)

Just saw your thread and to answer your first question I ran stock pipes with cat bypass and trip k&n's for several months. I did finally buy TB after I talked Sam into making me some preds. The TB arrived first (go figure) and I downloaded the full power, speedo correct tune while running the stock pipes with cat bypass. My dealer (Destination Daytona) installed the cat bypass for free since I purchased it through them. They also put in the Triumph tune for the bypass tors. I asked them about the full power tune and they said I would need TB for that.
I run the k&n's naked and love the look. Sam's pipes came with a TB tune and I have never dynoed. I plan to get some of Nev's downunder cams and his lock up clutch, then dyno. I've been told to dyno with a rear tyre that you plan to replace since the rolling road is hard on them. Even though TB has the ability to turn off the O2 sensor I ended up buying the plug from dynojet because of decel pop.
I have asked Sam and Nev and my local dyno shop about the need for PCIII to dyno the r3. Nev has said that someone real familiar with TB can dyno with it but it takes longer so cost more. Sam arrived at his tunes using pcIII on the dyno and then 'emulating' the tune into TB. My local dyno shop has no idea how to use TB other than installing existing tunes. So since I haven't been able to talk Nev into coming to Sunny Florida I will take Sam's advice and buy or borrow a pcIII for the dyno and then emulate the tune into TB and remove the pcIII. Sam had offered to loan his pcIII for this purpose but I don't want to take advantage of him(like those guys on the other side of the pond who need "heat shields")(I wear my burnt levis with pride!)

Hope this helps you even though its a little late. (I think you caught some of those other guys in the heat of their political debate over the sexiness of the VP candidates!)

1- Terrible thread! Comeon guys!
2- My '06 book says 87 octane (r+n/2)
3- Mine started pinging heading to Tahoe. Only in 4th and 5th WOT. Been 10,000km since and it still pings but not all the time.

At first I thought it was the elevation, then gas, then ethanol in gas, then did the 12min tune, changed the whole tune last week, richned the tune a little again and still pings for 3-4 seconds even with 94 octane.

Now I'll have to "tweak" the ignition map I guess... or buy ear plugs.

The Rock should NOT PING UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES with decent 89 octane. This is a low compression engine.

You may have a lean condition, fouled injectors, etc. Look into it, I'm telling you it is not normal.

Use Top Tier gas only, the lates "best gas" out there seems to be Shell. Run some techron through it and wring it out

Either the fuel injector cleaner finally worked or it's the tank of gas from Esso but the pinging is gone again.... I'll see if it stays that way.

I suspect the ethanol content might be the problem....

Has anyone in the states noticed all the new gas stations popping up?(think someone might be trying to avoid taxes on their billions in profits) One did two miles from me recently(the next nearest is four miles) and an old fashion gas war started. The new Mobil kept dropping regular below the old stations price so I filled up my stump puller '83 fj60 which started pinging soon after. I also filled the r3 with their mobil regular and it still sings its sweet baritone. The next tank on the fj60 came from the station further down A1A and the pinging stopped.
Since octane rating boils down to the temp the fuel ignites does 10% ethanol lower that temperature?

The dyno tuner I am going to use tuned my Harley and is real familiar with the Race Tuner, he looked at Tune Boy's web sight and feels it works just like the Race Tuner and said he feels it will be easy for him to dial it in.

Thanks to all for some REAL feedback 8)

My f....ng manual does not cover this combo....does yours?

My manual says to use premium gas (91 octane). No matter what combo you have or if you're bone stock.

We must all have different manuals. Mine clearly states AKI 89 or higher.

So there are 87, 89, and 91. Anyone else have something different or conclusive.

Here is AUS the manual for my 2008 model says to use 95 octane

Well I just did a dyno run to find out base line before ANY TUNING, here is what I got:

135 h.p. and 146 t.q. torque started at 2500 and stayed consitent to 6000, now to dial it in on the dyno once we get the Tune Boy figured out 8)
