Its made by fehling and is as strong as!...it's fixed to the bike with bolts thru the side brackets and thru the rear mudguard. You wont bend it son! i'm very sure of that!
I'm looking at getting a 'Swag' (Google it) and it will fit on there along with a good sized tail bag and sleeping bag. Along with saddlebags you will have alot of storage.
When you receive it from Fehling, it has 4 spacers with it that the bolts go thru. 2 are shorter than the other 2 and i found by positioning the rack so its dead centre on the guard, you will see which side the shorter spacers go.
I love it cos i have a small bag with plastic buckles on the bottom and i just used plastic ties to hold the receiver section of the buckle to the frame of the carrier. That way i can release it easy and put something else there if i want to.

Yeah! I may ditch my UTOPIA rider's backrest and RIVCO solo rack and put my Fehling one in chrome like @Tal 's on instead as it is roomier and stronger.

I finally made a rear rack from the OEM pillion seat.
Worked swell on my recent 3,000+ mile ride to and through Arizona.
It cost me under $15 for bolts, nuts and platform.
