Why would you say that ? It is putting out 13v AND it is only weeks old? Could the charger be the issue, you think?

Well u have charged it up to over 13 volts so your charger seems to work
So that narrows it down to either bat or cables take tour pick. I would put my money on a defective battery.
I am curious when u stopped trying to start did the volts come back up to the 13 ?

The battery is a new gel battery with 280 CCA. Weeks old.

"Weeks old" as in "weeks old when bought" or in "weeks old from production" It's well known that sometimes these batteries sit months if not years in the shop before being sold. There should be an date on it to check its age

Weeks ago bought. It is gel, I thought they were more stable than liquid acid and longer life ? I will confirm connection and look for date when I get home.

When u got the 6.5 volts were u bypassing the normal starting system and going direct to starter solenoid.

By not having the probes on the battery posts directly?? (Still learning)

the question is unimportant however i have learned from you
now on your battery when i got mine i had a hard time charging it. so i am thinking that may be take it to a battery shop let them put it on a slow charge then do a load drain to check it.

By the way I just got home and my headlight to go out when it tries to crank. Hopefully the new battery gets here but I just find it hard to believe a brand new gel battery would be dead.

the head light is suppose to go out when it cranks.
may just need to charge with the right charger

It's not dead, it just don't have enough cranking power. Did you pour the acid in when you got the battery or was it pre-filled?
