Picked up the bike Saturday. Rode it for about 80 miles. Today I was doing a little bit of cleaning (since it sat in someone else's garage for a long time), and discovered an oil leak at the bottom of the final drive. It has been there a while since it turned dark and pasty. I haven't checked the oil level in the final drive yet, but if it's low I will add some Amsoil gear oil 80W90 or so before taking the bike to the dealership. This is not something I really wanted to deal with. I was aware of the recall but somehow forgot the look under the shaft drive. I need to chill because stuff like this gets to me and I don't deal well with it. I checked the VIN on the bike before I purchased it and it was clean, no recalls on it.
Do you think Triumph will stand behind it? The guy I bought it from is the original owner and the bike has only 6,800 on it.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Checked the Owners Manual and it calls for 60Nm of torque to the filler plug. It seems like a lot to me. Is that info accurate?

Might just be some spline lube that seeped out from it sitting a long time...

There is at least one hole in the rear rim and it seems like there was some kind of oil coming out through that hole.
I hope you're right.
I've cleaned up good everything down there and I will keep an eye on it for the next couple of days.
Thanks for the reply.

Maybe best to purchase Triumphs Workshop manual .. best to deal with what you feel confident doing and leaving more challenging tasks to a trained mechanic. Sure you will find the leak is an easy fix. Considering the age of bike you'd be very lucky to still get warranty .. but always worth giving it a go , can only say no.

I know what you're saying. I do have the shop manual but haven't wrenched in a very long time. Serious wrenching is what I mean. I still do oil changes, final drive, spark plugs, but that's about it.
Thanks for your message.

Oh there is no "I think" with that drain plug torque. I know the hard way it is 15 Newton meters. That is 11 foot pounds.

Yeah, the drain plug needs to be torqued at 15Nm. But what about the filler plug? The manual calls for 60Nm. It sounds high to me. What torque value do you use on the filler plug?
