Ok, pull into the harly dealer today on the rocket. I need a new head buff, and its the closest to me, figured I would look at their over-priced stuff, just so I can feel better when I buy one somewhere else for sheaper.
Anyway, when I come back out, there are some lookers at the R3 (this hd dealership has a rally and ride very often, there were about 100 bikes parker when I pulled in).
So a lady on a sportster asks do I like it? Yep! love it. The hubby on a custom frame hd asked the usual technical questions. The wife asks whats the top speed, I told her how fast I had gone and how fast I had heard others had gone. And then she asked how fast will it get to top speed. You know, I have no idea...does anyone? I'm not a jack rabbit starter very often, and when I do, I'm sure not hanging on to a stop watch while I'm running through the gears and trying to keep from flying off the back.

So does anyone have any idea on times 0 - top speed on a Rocket?? Best times ever, average rider times, etc?

I never have. I have always just done a roll on at highway speed. Your answer should have been faster than any HD.

Whenever I go to an HD dealer they (customers and salesmen) always go look and walk around the bike when I am not around. Then when I come back out they scatter.

Times?
Yea.
They didn't name it Rocket for nothin.
.02 nanoseconds to light speed.
Or just short of it.
As Alfred Newman, or Albert Einstein one said, "nothing can go as fast as light."
Seriously, I don't have a clue, but it'll romp a hardly.;)
Now quit giving them posers the blues.:D
But DO have fun.

"They don't call it a rocket for nuthin", is my usual answer and "it does warp time a bit if you like" is the next bit. But like Pig9r I haven't done the zip to zoom time or anything, try to stay below light speed so I can at least see what is coming.

M/C Consumer news lists their test at 11.55 sec. for the 1/4 mile. Any sub 12 second time is very quick-even ore so for a cruiser. No H-D except the V-Rod even close. BTW, that's well over 112 mph-quick math puts it even higher but I'm not at my desk-but it's quick for sure.

well, there was never any question that I couldnt blow away anything at the hd dealership, lol. That was very much attested to by those who kept finding reasons to look the other way when I would catch them sneaking a look at the rocket.
It was just a question that stumped me, and I was wondering if anyone had timed or ever head of a time to reach top speed.
Blazing fast, no matter what a watch says, lol.

I tried the top speed thing twice. (saddle bags removed of course) It shot up to 130 really quick but felt like it ran out of gear after that. It slowly got close to 140 but by then the speedo was almost impossible to see from the vibration and wind.
It just came to me ... do these things have a speed limiter? I never thought about that.
I sure wish there was one more gear. A six speed would be sweet!

Yep... they do have a speed limiter, which can be removed with Tuneboy software, but I agree, they could REALLY use an over drive 6th gear!.. :) The RIII and Classic are limited to around 140.. and the R3T is limited to around 125 or so? Even with the speed limiter removed though, I don't think they will do much over 150, they're just not geared for it.

Keep an eye on the forum though.. Hombre is supposed to be running the Maxton mile this May, I believe, with his supercharged, big cammed, RIII.. :)

I don't know how long it took to get there but my R3T got to 118 indicated on the GPS in what seemed to be a short period of time. That was all I could do before the road changed. I am sure I could have gone a little more. That's plenty fast for me. I don't have a need for some extreme speed. I just like to get there as quick as I can. My FBG does that just fine !

You could put a top speed like this ;)
A rocket 3 passing an archer @ 140 mph

Arrow flight testing
Our Test Results - Chronograph (speed) Test
650gr Arrow 10.83 gr/lb. 196 195 195 195 194 195.0 FPS

Arrow Impact (me to Arrow Impact (Second

Approx time of impact @ 50 yards
APPROXApproximate Time to Arrow Impact
200 fps 0.152 0.309 0.471 0.637 0.808t (Seconds)
Speed of R3 @ 140 MPH
205.33 fps
205.33 X .8 seconds = 164.264 ft
= 54.754 yards

minus loss reaction time .2 second letting go of bow string = 10 yds
Not counting aiming
R3 now 64.754 yds .
NEVER ! let archer use a cross bow or different arrows :D
