Just curious as to why you would expect to be able to establish residency by buying property but not be subject to taxes associated with that residency? Would you expect to be exempt from property taxes and tax on any income earned while here? Not sure what other taxes you might be subject to, other than of course sales taxes.

...do not plan to establish residency just vacationing and I am not talking about property tax paid to the city or rental income which I did not plan on renting but I meant tax to my annual canadian income!!!! yes! amazing isn't it and I trust my tax lawyer to know what he is talking about. apparently this is in the study stage I told him forget the US I will just buy a place in equator

It's in the 30's and clear here so I could ride except I'm sitting around eating hydrocodones because of sinus surgery on Tuesday. Fortunately, I just hauled a trailer load of post oak home last week so it's nice and toasty up in here!

Wow, tax your Canadian income. Evidently the IRS has become so incompetent at collecting taxes from Americans that they are looking north. We have no shame.

Pretty warm in Finland too, 8-10 celsius where I'm at. Oh well, it's called climate change for a reason I guess. Still, ordered and had installed an electric engine- and cabin heater for the car... nicer than having to scrape the ice off it after leaving work as we have outlets with timers in the parking lot, and saves the engine (and a little fuel).
