Windshield / Fairing question

me neither,Dave.

still waiting on a cam package to finish my rocket...

should've had it several weeks ago.

any how, when it does get put back together, I'll make a trip with roni on back and let you try a high powered rocket with a corbin fairing and a narrow darkside.

My vote is also for the Clearview, plus you can have that "Gold Wing" vent installed as well to get a little more air if you need it.

It looks like you are going to try both so hopefully you'll be able to decide which is best for you.

About the Gold Wing, I was always happy with the stock shields that they came with (having owned two...maybe financed two would be a better way to put it). But if you go to the Wing forum (www.gl1800riders.com) you can find quite a few threads on a lot of riders complaining about the windshields and different shields they have tried to make it a more "comfortable" ride. There are a lot of choices available to suit the individual rider. I just mention that because getting a Gold Wing may still not solve your problem immediately.

Don't feel bad about considering the windshield option, after my "high speed" ride across north FL in '87 (or was it '86?) on the Virago 1100 (without a windshield) I have had a windshield ever since.

That being said, if you are pretty much of a solo rider, I'd probably stay with the Rocket and hope the Clearview or the Corbin fairing works out.

But if you ride with the significant other alot...she will appreciate the Wing big time, it is often perceived as an "old man's bike" but you would be surprised at the large number of young riders that have one. They usually say bring your checkbook if you go for a test ride (especially if the wife/girlfriend is with you) as you often end up buying one after the test ride. They are big but they are very fast for their size, they have plenty of torque and HP (mine was 125 T, and 118 HP) and they handle like a sport bike once they get moving. And for us old guys they have a reverse gear which is pretty handy in gravel parking lots). As for sound...let's just say, if it is adjusted right (I never had a problem adjusting it...but a lot of the Wing riders do) it is awesome. And they are not that much heavier than the Rocket and cruise control is standard.

Speaking of "old man's bikes" isn't there a fair number of us that are over 50 on this board? Just food for thought.

I have the Corbin fairing. When I got it I thought I would take it off in the summer time, but I haven't had it off yet. I am about 5'10" and wear a full face helmet. I got a little bit of buffetting from the short windshield that came with it. I went with a National Cycle v-stream ultra-low and it took care of the buffeting.

Some others have gone from 6 in to 9 in windshields and that helped as well.

Overall, I think a fairing will make a big difference to you.

Corbin Fairing 6" Smoke

Get a fairing from Corbin.

The thing changed the dynamics of riding my R3 entirely.
I have an '06 Classic, same as you, thought I'd get more miles on it, if I got out of the wind. I just put it on a week ago, and wished I had done it sooner. It improves the look of the bike "BIG TIME", and riding at 100mph down the highway, was uneventful and not one bit dramatic. You do get a bit of wind in the face, but all the wind hitting your torso is nil, you can lessen your grip and your hands will be noticeably warmer too.

I'm in Canada, I took my first test spin with the fairing at 5 degrees celcius.

On my Corbin I replaced the shield with a 13" which is still about 2" too short for me.

I normally take it off for the summer.

T.D.,

I've got a 15" cee baily( klock werk's) that's a bit tall for me in light shade if you are interested.
