What Happens if....

Sorry to butt in to your thread..... Claviger's reply sparked me to ask something that I've been wondering. hope to kill 2 birds with one stone. :whitstling:

I don't recall seeing any dynos of that exact setup, but, assuming they flow at least as well as the Triumph TORs, you should be a good bit ahead of stock numbers if you decat, D&D, and add Ramair + tune to suite.

Dobecks, some people swear by them, I have no personal experience with them, but if it functions as advertised should be an easy way to get a good fueling mix to get the most out of your upgrades.

One good thing going that route... stock headers are comparitively cool compared to Reband/CES/Jardine/Carpenter, so you won't have to worry about right leg heat or pants burning.

Tex...

No problem brother...I am curious to hear the resolution to your setup!

How much torque are we going to lose tossing the Tupperware?

BTW the RAMAIR is on Backorder as we speak....Or the cleaner/oil is cuz my order is "backordered until one of your items come back in stock".

How she run with the TORs catless? Did you get a chance to run her bone stock before the conversion?

Cheers...Greg

Thanks Claviger!

For being so far away you sure know alot about the Rocket!

Cheers...Greg

Naw, bought it as it is last Feb. it does run strong though for all stock Xcept the TORS/No Cat - I just balanced the throttle bodies last weekend & felt like I was committing a sin putting the tuperware back on!!!!!

Don't forget the 10 per cent off coupon on RAMAIR's site if you have not ordered....I am a dolt...I buy these bikes/cars stock..Dump a load of cash into them then sell them at a big loss..Just to repeat the process!

Cheers...Greg

PS...I watched the video on pulling that Tupper...Going to be some F bombs dropped around here when that happens fo sure when I drop a washer/screw behind the oil tank!

So, I want to ask this question in reverse...... I have an 05 with TORS/No catbox. It has the 20220 map. I want to install RamAir setup, I've been told by Triumph mechanic at the dealership that adding the RamAir to my setup will not increase increase HP, only quicker throttle response (I assume he means just adding the R/A & not re-mapping). I am fine with that as I have plenty of HP for my liking. I really want the R/A setup to accomplish, as has already been stated here, to get rid of plumbing - My main question is: can I install the RamAir without re-mapping? I really don't want to re-map if I don't have to, as I am somewhat "computerly challenged" AND the bike is very reliable now for long distance sailing so I'd like to keep mapping close to stock. I know that replacing the intake system with R/A will cause it to be leaner but I get a purty good amount of decal popping now so I assume it is already a little on the rich side. I like the low to mid range torque it has now... not needing high end max mph.
I hope this is not too stupid a question, I was beamed down here from the carburetor days.

The Ramair, with your setup would likely yield a few HP up top, like 5k+ RPM region, but up there's a few HP difference is very hard to judge with the butt dyno! You technically should remap, can you get away with nit doing so..... yes, but you are probably not going to have any power gains without a tune.

Popping in the exhaust is almost always due to a lean condition not rich on injected bikes. It's an intentional feature intended to assist in emissions testing, when you close the throttle ignition gets retarded and the mixture leans out, because the air pressure in the exhaust is lower than the atmosphere it ignites at a much leaner than 14.7:1 ratio, providing fuel free exhaust for the emissions test equipment.

That said, a lean deceleration condition doesn't have anything to do with if your rich or lean when on the throttle.

Run a long magnet down to grab the washers, use a set of long needle nose pliers to grab the bolt head (it is NOT magnetic/metal) on the 2 bolts that hold the outer box - those allen head bolts holding the bands around the two inside ports, I was able to do fairly easy with a "wobble" type allen socket, on the end of a wobble extension, on the end of a long extension. actually made it real easy.

Sir, you are a wealth of knowledge!!!! What you say makes a lot of sense. Thank you - I will re-think this now

The 20220 tune is for the production silencer without catalyst in the cat box. You can do better. This is a custom dyno tune by Wayne MacDonald (Tuneboy). It was done on a bike with TORs and cat bypass pipe.

This is richer than the stock tune for your setup (20226) and is unrestricted (2ndaries open 100%) This attempts to quell the decel popping. Make sure to uncheck the O2 sensor box. I had an R3 with this tune dynoed at 140 hp/150 ft lbs.

If you screw with the intake, you can get more high end HP but good luck getting it re-tuned.
