Well you said don't knock it till you tried it.

You can see the new tire and the new Whelen TIR3 lights. They are bright! will post night time photo when I can. You can also see my K1200RS collecting dust since I got the Rocket.

That's cool...I never thought of mounting some extra lights there. I'll have to work on that.

Nice Job on Tire and lights. Did you mount the tire yourself? And if so how did the mounting and dismounting go?

I had a local guy mount the tire for me. Had it balanced and then added ride on sealer/balancer. I pulled and replace the wheel assembly myself. It was an easy job to do.

Interesting to read about the Whelen lights. We used to race with Sonny Whelen and his dad several years ago. Sonny drove a Viper Comp Coupe in the Viper Racing League before moving on and sponsoring some NASCAR cars. Very nice guy and a very talented driver. Small world.

Well I tried it and it is better then I expected. I put a General G Max 195/60/16on the rear of my R3T today and I am I'm impressed. It is replacing an Avon Cobra with a slight flat spot in the center, still had a good amount of rubber left. The General handles better then the slightly worn Avon. The rear brakes work better and overall a softer ride. It take a little more effort in turns but not much, it did not get in trouble when pavement was uneven. I have not experienced it trying to stand up when coming out of a turn. I guess I am sold on the Darkside idea.

As far as the r+r of the rear tire it is one of the easiest to r+r. I used one of my of Harley floor jacks and grabbed the rear frame with the outside part of the jack, then put two straps from the jack to the handlebars. Solid as a rock and no wood or adapters needed as bike sat level. no worrying about the front wheel moving because the straps keep the wheel straight. I will post photos of jack setup when I can.
Now that the tire job is complete I will be mounting Whelen TIR3 lights on the rear to make the bike more visible. This will be much brighter then standard LED's and Signal Dynamics Back Off setup. will have the option of steady burn or flashing with brake. I think I will do the flashing as it will really get the attention of vehicles behind you.
How's the vacation going? And is that tire working out for ya? BTW..where did you buy that particular tire? I've called a couple of tire shops and they're not showing that size in their catalogs, don't see it on the Darkside site either. I've been wanting to swap out the rear on my Rocket3T for awhile now. Thanks for the posts.

Vacation is great. I made an error when posting tire size it is a 205/55/ZR16. Speed rating of 168 mph. Slightly shorter then standard tire. I am in Florida right now and have not got loose with it on roads near the beaches that have a dusting of sand on them. Pulls like a truck and braking is excellent. I intentionally locked the rear to see what would happen and it stayed straight and the tire noise sounded like a car very loud. I bought the tire from Tirerack.com and it was a great price. Good luck with your going to the dark side.

Thanks Danny. Say, how is your fuel economy with that new tire? And 205 seems wide for the Touring swingarm. Was there any trouble installing to the drive assy.?
