Slightly off topic...but is there any way I can de-shine my matt bearclaw? My knee has rubbed the bearclaw while riding and there's a patch that's gone shiny near the seat end. Any advice?
I use a product call Dry Shine, no water required, wax in it as well. Takes me 10mins. to go through the bike quick, 20mins. if I do the whole bike, shines the chrome, paint, doesn't scratch, works excellent on the windshield. I spray it on one microfiber rag to apply, clean it off with another. Between the wax that is on it, then if I let it soak for a minute on bug guts, they come right off.
Basically, probably not. Matte is matte because it's a rougher surface that diffuses light. Sounds like you've worn it smooth so it has become more reflective.
Repainting is pretty much always the only way to restore a matte finish. Here's a segment about BMW's matte ("frozen finish").
You can re-spray it with flat black or scuff & spray flat clear coat over the whole thing. but even if you do, you will still rub it shiney again.
You may want to try this:
to cover the area so it wont "rub" shiney again..... If it were me, I would just put this over the area that's rubbed without re-spaying it & it will probably look the same as it would if you did re-spray it
you can cut it to the exact size/shape you want - I used it in areas that were prone to rub the paint (like the area the seat contacts the back of the tank) you almost can't even tell it's there. It is thin & inconspicuous
