A nice carnauba wax on the paint is what you want. Unless you want a sealer, which it sounds like you do.

Though if the paint is already iffy, one may want to start with some Mequiar's M205 and a dual-action polisher and a black pad. Polishing is what gives paint shine, not wax, wax is a protective coating. Once a year sounds about right, and then cover with a wax/sealer.

SPRAY the whole bike with LEMON PLEDGE

Yeah the stuff has detergents and stuff in it as well as wax, and that wax washes off the instant it starts to rain, basically. It's a furniture polish for indoor use.

I dunno, I think you have to go a little beyond just lazy to start spraying stuff on your bike and scrubbing it off on a regular basis, any kind of contact on paint wears the clear down slowly but surely and can cause unsightly swirls etc.

I'll keep treating mine as if it were a high end car, and I wouldn't spray pledge on car paint either. But, to each his own.

For the neurotically homophobic, there is an unscented variant, though. :p

NO Ive been using pledge forever with excellent results and it doesnt harm any finishes and doesnt wash off instantly with rain you have to clean off bugs everytime you ride and iit works great as a cleaner leaving a protective coating try it its not going to wear down the clear coat there is no scrubbing anything off and it leaves a nice shiny finish the same as it does on furniture etc Why dont you read about it first then youll understand I use on the windscreen and face shield and even on my leather jacket and boots GOOD STUFF

If all you're concerned about is being able to wash off bugs, use anything slippery. Vaseline comes to mind.

If you're interested in protecting the paint then use a product designed to protect the paint. There are several auto detailing forums around that provide a wealth of information on sealers and waxes.

Its funny how someone will rail against using a tire that is not designed for a motorcycle but will insist that the best product to protect motorcycle paint is furniture polish.

I've used Pledge on my motorcycle visor back in the day when I didn't have a Pinlock inner shield to keep fogging away, and it's not a bad product for cleaning a helmet either, but personally I have other products I use on the bike. Lots of people do use it on their bikes and if you're happy with it then go for it.

Spray on and wipe off stuff in general isn't something I'm a fan of but that's just me.

Oh yeah, never use products that add shine to matte. You need matte-specific products for that.

Matte looks rugged but it's a real prima donna type paint to keep looking good.

As I thought...thanks for confirming it. I just wash it occasionally and it looks fine. With matte and almost no chrome (by design) I haven't much to clean.:)
