Those of us with THUGS pipes saw a increase of mid range disproportionate to the top end gains. I know I have Supertrapp discs on mine - but they're cosmetic to stop policemen looking in. By supertrapp's reckoning they're open. Open pipes don't HAVE to raise the bar.
I use the full rev range almost every ride - but would love to have a higher and flatter torque curve for fast cruising. 50-100mph to cover 65-90mph comprehensively. Sadly major engine mod's here will almost certainly mean failing the MoT emmisions controls. As it is I have to refit the stock pipes (with cat) and apply the stock map for each inspection. Swapping cams would be too much.
