Triumph Rocket Insurance

Ins

With my age and where I live you guys would really hate me for what I pay..I heard that state farm rates by CCs so they are not the ones to insure a rocket with..

I'm not an agent, my mother is in the insurance business, and she couldn't tell you why they charge what they do other than, that is what they charge. She encourages me to shop around becuase when they start losing policies is when they lower the rates.

I assume State Farm could careless whether or not they insure motorcycles. Geico on the other hand specializes in it and hopes to fill that nitche of the marketplace and make a buck. State Farm would rather sell you life and home owners insurance. With American Family their high risk side, American Standard are the only ones that write motorcycle policies.

In the aftermath of the fires in SoCal, I suspect that State Farm might get more agressive in the motorcycle arena. They were the largest insurer for property loss in the SoCal fires so they are gonna take a huge hit to the bottom line.

We get 1 meter snow in 1 day here.:D Of course we don't have reindeer either.

I just got my renewal for Allied/Nationwide. $512 USD / 12 months full coverage for 2 bikes and a sidecar with an added value of 7K for the sidecar and 250 deductible, all perils. If I didn't have to pay the MCCA fee, my total insurance bill for both bikes would be $300.00 USD / 12 months. You can take Geico and Progressive and stick 'em both. State Farm too.

Allied

I just changed from Progressive to Allied. Why Progressive took a huge increase I will never know but can tell you I did not pay the increase. I moved our two bikes and my wifes Trike insured for stated amount to Allied and paid $805 a year. $394 for the R3, $295 for a 96/2004 Goldwing/CSC trike valued at $20K, and $116 for the 2001 Valykie.

Yes I paid more for the R3 because of displacement. We are heavily discounted because of our credit rating (but his lips were moving indicating some type of fib I'm sure). The agent said we are getting a 41% overall discount. That leaves the insurance folks a lot of play room to charge more when ever they wish and for whatever reason. Next year we will see what ploy they try to charge more.

I must tell you that if you take them to task when none of their criteria for the original discount has changed, they will back off and restore the same discount rate...but they have to be challenged to do that.

Our policy is $500 deduct/100k-300k full coverage on all. Allied does not insure our home, boat, or car and pickups. We have no accidents, no tickets, and are generally boring people just vehicle poor....:D SB.

SB:

Check your policy. Allied is now doing the Allstate sliding deductible thing with bike insurance. That's neat. Basically, with no chargeables and no claims, I'll go to a '0' deductible in 4 years of continuous coverage. Allied was the only carrier that would cover my sidecar outfit for the replacement value with no built in depreciation.

Deductable

Flip:

Thanks for the tip and I will check and see if they do that here in WA. It's interesting that in order to insure my wife's trike for fair market value, (instead of wholesale which is what they pay in this state if the vehicle is totaled), We took the trike to a dealership that sold both Honda Goldwing and the California Side Car trike kits. He in turn appraised and set a fair market value on the trike in writing which we had to supply to Allied Ins Co.

From that point on we paid an additional per thousand cost to cover the trike over and above what Allied would have paid at wholesale. If we had not done that, the trike was only worth 60% of its real value if destroyed. Well worth the ride/time to make sure if the unmentionalble accident happens the trike is covered for its real value. A little trivia for those interested in covering custom or highly modified vehicles.:) SB

That's basically what I did with the Bonnie and the Spyder. I supplied Allied with the build receipts, estimated my time at 50 bucks an hour in build and supplied pictures, front, rear and both sides. I couldn't get Progressive or State farm to touch the bike/sidecar for ACV. It's actually appreciating not depreciating. I'm very happy with Allied and I'm glad I found them but it was through an independent agent's recommendation. I wasn't too worried about theft. If it got stolen it would stand out like a sore thumb. After all, there are only 2 like it in existence. My main concern was loss due to fire or accidental damage plus I have a special rider on the bike when I show it for damage from malicious mischief.

If I have it at a show, I try to stay close by. I really hate people putting their mitts on it. You want to look, that's OK. Don't touch.

Dairyland

I live in Utah, and Dairyland is the cheapest I can find; $415 year because of displacement. Good credit, no claims, advanced riding course, 30+ years riding.
