Talked to Carpenter Racing

Ok, all you guys that have done all this work, I'm up to suggestions. I have a stock 2008 R3 Touring. Only mods are cosmetic. Have always thought about tuning and exhaust but never could decide what to do. Also have had a Gi Pro ATRE on my Christmas list for years. What would be, in your opinion, the best first move in making the bike better? Sounds like the Gi Pro is the simplist.
There is a map that Wayne provided for stock R3T.
It is in the first post here....

Well boys and girls after four weeks by bike is ready to pick up. As it was explained to me on the phone there are four maps for me to look at. 1st is the original map that was done with the power comander a few months back, 2nd is doing a run to verify if anything has changed, 3rd was to store and zero out the power commander and load the TuneECU Bones Super Tune and do a run, and 4th was to add fueling with the power commander as needed to make any improvements. The shop is telling me that their original custom map with just the power commander yeilded the best result. We shall see when I pick up my rocket tomorrow. My butt dyno will tell me where I'm at. If there is no improvement I'll ride this way for this year, but I'm thinking next year she goes back to all stock and maybe I'll finally learn to leave well enough alone when I buy something.

6 months in, I have to say the Carpenter kit is awesome. I had a few reservations about low end torque, as I was used to riding the bike a certain way, I think. Once you learn how to run it, it is truly amazing. Best money I ever spent, you just have to learn how to use the rpms.

This is a good thread. It is straight forward in the sense, hp is important especially if you don't mind higher rpms. Being a torque junky, I tend to go a different route.

Well it's official my bike doesn't have anymore torque in the lower RPM's than it did before. Unless the dyno graphs have been manipulated neither of the TuneECU maps I had were any better than the custom PCIII map I had to begin with. Like I stated previiously I ride this year with my turd the way it is, but she goes back to all stock over next winter. I might even just sell it and be done with Triumphs. I've avoided all things from The Motor Company my whole life due to lot's of reasons, but maybe I'll have to join the fray. If I do I will not sell out to the so called lifestyle. It doesn't matter what bike, or by what manufacture the engineers are obviously a whole lot smarter than me when they come up with a design that is the best overall platform for a given manufacture. To me in simple english it means leave well enough alone. To all who have given advise and constuctive criticism I thank you, but I'm not going to be around here much anymore. I've allowed too many forums/blogs to cloud clear thinking with personal opinions/experiences. I have finally learned my lesson. Peace out.

... with a bizarrely surprise ending!

Why speedfrk wouldn't put about $500-$1,000 into his "turd", as he affectionately calls his Classic, to get it up into the 150 rwhp range is beyond my comprehension, especially when he states that he'd consider the ultimate, overpriced and underpowered donkey on two wheels, an HD, as an alternative!

Strange...

hey speed you can put the OEM air duct and filter system back on it and you will most likely have back what you think you have lost. Personally I would leaf the TORS and cat delete on unless you will get pinched in the inspection lane. if that is what you like then there is nothing wrong with it. if you got rid of your OEM pipes I believe I have a set laying around and when I come to Norfolk I will bring them to ya. I also have the cat box. You can have them if you got rid of yours. installing a stock tune in it with tune ecu will not be hard. The most important thing is what you like on her.
If you decide its not the bike for you let me know maybe I can swing buying it.

You are screwing up here BIG TIME, Amigo.
I have followed this thread with interest and everything you have been told here is golden.
K.I.S.S. is the plan, my friend. Open up exhaust, trip K&Ns, put in a good tune using Tune ECU.
Easy peasy and simple even for a dorongo like me.

After doing this, if you can't feel the OBVIOUS improvement with your butt dyno, then you have ass nerve damage.
If you give up and quit, as you've just stated, you shall miss out HUGE and should consider changing your handle at the least.
Best Regards in whatever you do,
1olbull
