Ok so, after 32k happy miles, on Sunday the R3 suddenly sprung a fairly serious oil leak from what appears to be the front / left side of the rocker cover, this was accompanied by a 'burning tyre' smell. Got oil all over the headers, my leg, etc.

Checked rocker cover bolts - TIGHT.

Any ideas / history before I drop it in the shop?

Maybe blown the Rockercover gasket.. excess crankcase pressure maybe?

Appreciate all the feedback guys, thanks. Going to be a couple of weeks or so before I can get it into the shop - once I know what it is, I'll share. Cheers, John.

Sounds like a blown gasket. Happened to mine. Presume you mean front right??? not left if it's dropping onto your headers??? No matter. Could be excess crankcase pressure or, as in my case, poorly fitted gasket (when I had the head gasket replaced). Not a major repair but messy until it's done and watch your oil level if you're riding anywhere.

If you have the same gasket in there for 32k you are probally lucky it didn't go before now they harden up and should really be replaced when you had your clearances checked each time the dealer will tell you it is fine but 32thouand miles is a bloody lot of miles. I honestly think you will find that it has hardened and cracked

Don't all Triumphs leak at least a little? :D

I had a similar leak at 500mi, dealer tightened the bolts. Now at 20K mi I am noticing a little seapage again.

Hey gang, do you replace the rocker gasket on your family cars at 32K??

I've got 90k miles on my 05 rocket rocker gasket. Actually, maybe only 80k since the dealer may have changed it out when they did the 10k valve check. Haven't checked the valves since then either, nor have I cleaned the Crank Angle Sensor, or changed out any of the TPS's.

Bike runs better than new (with the gipro).
